I’m ecstatic and bummed. Got my GT70. But without the cells I ordered, dangit! All my other cells are across the country at the moment, so I have my toy and can’t use it. And I’m in Az, with lots of opportunity to play with its range.

I sent Leo a note. Since they can’t ship plain cells (or so I’ve read), where’s the best place to get the best cells for the light? Still 30Qs?

On a side note, for those waiting and checking Lumintop’s website. I’ve had my light for a week (it arrived a week ago, I just got here to open it today), and their website still says “wait for shipping”. I know we all want our toys yesterday, but if you ordered it, it’s most likely on the way.

Far as where to order replacements, https://www.imrbatteries.com/ is a good place. MTN also sells cells. There is another popular place but I forgot the name.

You can pick up a couple of power banks for your cell phone and pull the batteries from that. You might need to do some research on what power banks have what cells.

Also, check out the seller Genuinecells on eBay. I got my 8 30q cells in 3 days from them.

What’s the max current draw off the batteries? Do I need 30A cells? I don’t care which ones I order. I just want the light to perform as well as it can. Sorry if this is answered somewhere, I looked around and didn’t see it. 30Qs are 15A. For a couple of dollars, I can get VTC5A or D.

Anyone have any opinions?

I think it will be coming with XP-L HI to start out with since they want it to be a pocket thrower. Can’t say I disagree with that choice given it’s heritage.

To be honest, I can’t stand the LH351D that I have seen, very noticeable green tint and it was supposed to be below the BBL. Even with a corrective film I can’t use the light I installed them in. So I am not really considering them for production lights due to at the very least the inconsistency and the chance they could be a bad tint. That said many think this same LED looks good, and it does have high CRI. So maybe I am just picky.

The SST-20 is an LED I am looking into, finding good bins and suppliers is proving a challenge but we only started looking recently. I want to order some SST-20 to test myself but have not had the spare funds to do it yet, plus the only place I know of that has them is KD.

@Imcmann, you just need NCR18650GAs, since even the GT70 doesn’t draw a massive amount of power per cell(about 100W-120W), so about 13W-16W per cell:

The emitter should draw about 8A@12v so with 4 cells each would draw 8A. With 8 cells, each draws about 4A.

What cell is under the wrapper?

The 3120mah sounds like a Sony VTC6? Remember that even though the wrapper says 30A continous, it’s really not.

I would stick to oem cells and avoid rewraps unless you know for sure what cell is under the wrapper.

After owning my GT70 for several weeks now, I’m still giggling. I love this thing!

I can vouch for that too. And I giggle even more when I keep it behind my back while friends are playing with my smaller throwers, like Jacobs A60, and then getting comments like “Holy $hit / F%@#” when I reveal the BLF GT70. I just can’t stop smiling, and that is what a hobby should do!

Comparing the NW and CW, definitely GT70’s Neutral White has good color rendition. The Cool White dulls out dark colors like green and brown of trees. I did not find the NW of Acebeam’s K65 to be good at all. This means the Neutral White of the Lumintop BLF GT70 is truly high quality. A very good 5500K. Lumintop BLF GT70 NW all the way! :+1:

The flat black is a hard LED to use due to the grounded thermal pad, you have to use a special driver for such an LED and it was not worth the hassle for most.

The new LED has a neutral ground pad so it can be used like any other 3535 LED. Making it a drop in replacement if you can find a good model.

White flat is not as easy as it seems.
That led is really picky about reflector imperfections. Even GT mini and Convoy L2 and Emisar D1 reflector was not perfect enough to find the perfect focus. It is really hard to get that tight hot spot with it because with an XP-L HI you have 4 times the emitting surface and if the reflector curve a little out of perfect you still see full yellowness of led from a distance. But not with White flat. If the bottom curve does not match perfect you ger hollow beam like this GT mini from 1m:

Or a strange beam that converges and diverges. like in this Emisar D1:

Also need to find somewhere 3030 centering rings or produce with some company or mod the XP ones because the white flat is smaller.

The max draw is not very high in this light so most cells will work fine. Although high drain cells like the 30Q and VTC series will give you a bit more lumens.
