Convoys are interesting, I just don’t know enough about them to make an informed decision. The L6 seems like an interesting one, and I see plenty of Convoy lights modded heavily. The Armytek does sound tempting, as well. :+1:
Thanks, Anton! The copper S2+ looks pretty special and I’m sure it won’t last forever, but AFAIK the BLF A6 is basically a modded version of the S2 that performs better. The Convoy L6 is definitely on my list, I just need to wait for a sale on the 7A or 5C on Simon’s Ali store, all the lights on the way other than the Emisars from Hank have been on discounts I’ve found through BLF.
The A6 has slightly better workmanship than a standard S2. There are some internal differences too. Biggest difference is the driver. A6 driver swap is an easy inexpensive upgrade to any S2.
With the S2+ you can get some interesting colours and that beautiful copper. Finish, fit and feel on my copper S2+ is very good.
I’ve noticed small differences in quality between my various S2 lights.
The well under $10 3/5 mode coupon deals came in a thin box and the anodising is good but nothing special. The retaining ring was soldering to the head of the light which was a bit annoying.
Ones like the ~$20 violet S2+ above with stock XPL-HI and biscotti, ordered direct from Convoy are step higher. The finish is better and it came in a nice sturdy box with a foam insert.
The Copper S2+ host is a big step up from the other S2s. TBH stock output is disappointing for a $45 flashlight. On the plus side the retaining ring is NOT soldered in on this one. I’ve got an A6 driver ready to drop in. After that I’m going to try a few different combinations of emitters, lenses and reflectors until I get one that matches the character of the light.
Wow, thanks for all the S2/S2+ info! I didn’t know the differences between the copper host and the anodized aluminum ones, the copper S2+’s mod-readiness is definitely a plus down the line. I am thinking of picking one up just due to the fit and finish you mentioned, along with the form. I just hope they’re still in stock in a week or two.
Thanks, AI! I went ahead and threw my name into the PL47 request hat, looks like they’re starting shipment after the GB is finished. :+1:
That makes sense, I’ve read that some like the right-angled lights and some don’t. I took my chances at my first right-angled one with the PL47, hopefully I end up liking it.
