Nice thread. I just need a small knife for general use and probably 5-6 years back I got a Sanrenmu 710 as it was the best bang for the buck that time. It served me well and now I am looking for a new one. I am not up to date much these days on budget knifes, but what would be the similar option as of now?
My Sanrenmu Izula alternatives the SRM S628 and the 7130. The handle of the S628 is as good as it gets but the 7130 will get a similar paracord wrap sooner or later.
I like seeing that the steel is real. Now it would just be nice to see some more proper heat treat on the M390. 60-62. That is a big difference from 58 which is pretty soft for that steel.
Yes, and for D2 there must be some difference in edge retention between 58 and 60 HRC… we would need Pete @ Cedric&Ada to do some more rope cutting tests
So it’s okey to have a real D2 variant in a cheap blade, but then if performance is only marginally better than regular 8Cr13MoV, that’s a bit disappointing
Anyways, too many parameters with these steels… many D2 variants (chinese or not), different blade geometries, etc…
It’s quite hard to take good shots of the effect, it’s a bit like mother-of-pearl.
I think now a cop enjoys it as the job student who bought it lost it when he ran into a friday night’s check.
He could’ve got it back but he’s just too lazy.
Now he got this polished and anodized one:
I also sanded down the blade a bit and gave it a frosty stonewash finish.
