FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

Was that confirmed /defined already?
$30 is the price, and it was talked about the XPL-HI being slightly more expensive ($35 ?!) but I’m not sure if it was defined already!

Anyway, I will still get an XPL-HI

Kinda, $30 NON-HI, ~$36 XP-L HI, not sure if it was confirmed though.

That’s my doubt too :stuck_out_tongue:

From Post#1:

As others have suggested, I think the better option is making the XPL HI lights now, and waiting for a better tint for the LH351D.

After all, only a few weeks is not a lot considering the span of the project, and it would be a pity to get such a special light and settling with greenish LEDs.

Remember. BLF-GT, agreed price + PayPal commission.

Shipping included (except some countries / destinations).

Suppose fw3a 30 / 36 shipping included + PayPal commission (except some destinations).

I personally haven’t decided which one I want but I ’d say option 3. So start making with XP-L HI now, do the LH351D with nice tint later.

I would agree that #3 is the best option. Get those xp-l hi lights out there!

Ideally for the 4 units i requested : 2x without emitters + 2x with LH351D far below BBL. I don’t mind an additional delay.
Start manufacturing the XP-L HI version ASAP.

I’d be happy to buy mine without emitters.

I’d prefer to wait for a good tint Samsung LED, if the only ones available at the moment are questionable.

I don’t want to pay 20% more for XPL-Hi.

I’m sure the XPL-Hi will be great, but I’ve got many other torches with them, and want to try something different.

How are Lumintop estimating the interested quantities for each option ? This is the first time that it has been clarified what is actually being considered, after the poll, and, understandably, the interest list does-not/could-not differentiate between preferred choices since the options were not finalised.

Perhaps the poll results might give a clue as to the breakdown, but that might require some clever statistical insight. And a delay to one option might skew the demand to the first to be available.

A suggestion: why don’t we formalise the way of joining the interest list, using a specific phrase that can be parsed automatically, or a web form/database, instead of by human labour ?

E.g. [express interest “Tom Tom” X1 option B]

or [cancel interest “Tom Tom” X2 option B]

Then, if option B is delayed, any wishing to change their mind to (available) option A would be allowed to do so, after a suitable delay, maybe a month, to allow all the option A list to place their orders, then any leftovers (I doubt there will be many) would be on a first-come first-served basis.

That’s one problem with offering a choice.

Then there is the difficulty of sending out unique codes to each on the lists, to be linked in to the distributor’s system (will this be direct from Lumintop, or instead via a retailer with a better distribution system than that of e.g. the GT ?)

I vote make the XPL HI lights now.

Frankly I’m not interested in the other emitter anyways. I prefer the extra lumens and throw of XPL HI anyways.

No led light with 5$ discount? I will change the emitters anyway, so I will let others decide.

That would just be a host, but including the interesting DEL driver and TK firmware, and maybe an MCPCB.

It won’t work with any other driver, it is an integrated design, the only straightforward modding potential is emitter swaps, firmware tweaks and TIR changes.

Difficult to see how that could be attractive to Lumintop, Just buy the cheapest version and get on with it, assuming that they are not glued up tight, like the GT.

Best just see it as a complete sealed torch, and buy a version that will do. It’s already modded to the max. (maybe beyond), difficult to see how to improve. Which is the point, and attraction, of the thing. The hard work has (hopefully) already been done.

Otherwise DIY a triple on e.g. a Convoy host, same result, maybe slightly better performance, but it will cost at least as much in parts, even if you know what you are doing, don’t make any mistakes, and don’t cost your time and materials, and tools.

Any news on what surface finish has been chosen ?

I vote 2

  • I’m in no rush

Frankly, I think that having 2 LED options makes a lot of sense, just like for example Emisar does. If the XP-L is the first one to be out then fine, I’ll probably wait for the high CRI option with Samsung LEDs reading first reviews before ordering.
It’d just be sad if the light would be available with ONLY Cree emiters.

XP-L HI, I don’t want to have to mod this thing :innocent:

Surely you jest

Like I said, without the LEDs :). But I will wait for the cheaper Samsung LEDs and change the emitters. Option 3

Option #3…. make the XP-L HI model now. Wait on the Samsung model until the proper LH151D can be obtained.
Or…. just put a 5000K LH351D in it if they are available in a nice Rosy tint.
.

Option #3

  • “3. Make the XP-L HI model now, and do the LH351D lights later”.
