Yep Jerommel, guess your right…. Wink

Bottom line is the FW3A is what it is & will be what it turns out to be after adjustments & compromises have been made to come to final production. Nothing more, nothing less.

And should’a, would’a, could’a….. will not change that.

Buy it or don’t buy it……. Wink

Personally…. I will be buying!!! Thumbs Up

I mean absolutely no disrespect to anyone nor am I “jumping on the bandwagon” of complaining here but my interest in multiple units (x3) was based on the images and descriptions of the original 2 prototypes and community voted choices [emitter type].

Please remove two of my spots, I’ll still take one lignt as I do still like the collaboration aspect between forums and a manufacturer but one’s enough of the light the fw3a has became for me Sad

When the original complaining is blatantly bashing the project or the people running the project, that’s just not right. It stirs up the pot and no one likes it. People get “triggered” to respond. I guess it’s human nature to stand up for those people who are being “put down” or insulted. I’m especially defensive when it comes to people insulting ToyKeeper. MascaratumB – one thing you missed is the frustration of expecting it to be released in the near future only to receive a wall of silence. I’m not trying to make a complaint or take a side just pointing out that some people like to express their frustrations for the lack of communication from those involved in producing the light.

It’s done when it’s done. Just hurry up about it Facepalm Big Smile

Meanwhile the weather here is beautiful, mid 20’s (centigrade) and clear skies Cool

From what I remember from the GT thread, Lumintop does not do the anodizing in-house. Their parts are sent out to a nearby company that specializes in anodizing.

Then they are not terribly good.

The seams indicate variable current density, probably due to being tightly stacked in square formation and over-cooked.

Boiling them up in dark grey dye may cover this up.

No problem with that decision. But don’t expect much durability from the ano, if this is what has happened.

Better, find a finisher who can do a clear hard anodise properly.

I’ve spec’d dark grey hard anodizing for parts I’ve designed before. It may not have quite the same charm as bare aluminum, but it is a nice look and fell all the same, and very durable.

I’m definitely not going to get worked up about a cosmetic change, especially since I could see it providing a functional benefit to the reliability of the electrical isolation of the tube that provides the tailswitch continuity.

I actually really like the grey. I thought that the pictures in the main post were just weird lighting. The one thing I will say is that I think you guys could have done a much better job of sharing that change sooner as it seems like this is catching a lot of people by surprise but the decision was apparently made months ago. I’m really hoping that the good LH351Ds can be found quickly as I’m still pretty excited about this light.

This was talked about a lot roughly 5 months ago. I’m guessing some people don’t really follow the thread and those that do might have forgotten about it. At least no one has seemed surprised about the sloping angle on the battery tube. Wink

I did forget why they are bead blasting it. Did the finish not look nice when anodized without bead blasting? The combo of dark grey and no bead blasting might look sweet.

/\ … Bottom line is whatever they do, if it is done correctly; will look just fine.

It may not please everyone because of personal taste…. but it will be fine if done correctly.

Agreed, and being completely honest, while the shiny bare aluminum does look nice, the color/ano is not a big deal to me whatsoever. I’m excited about the firmware and size.

You didn’t forget. It’s just that nobody here knows. For a lot of things, like the bead-blasting, I don’t have any more information than anyone else here. There has been a distinct lack of communication for quite a while. I try not to complain about it in public, but it’s pretty frustrating.

Most of the questions I haven’t answered are because I don’t have the answers.

This look was quite unlikely, because it is a rendering from a CAD program:
The schininess is different in real live and knurling also.

The team aimed for the look from the clear Convoys.

I sure like the latest move towards the dark grey, bead-blasted finish. :ARROW-RIGHT:

On the other hand, will this light have ‘momentary ON’ ?

Yes. Give it 5 fast clicks from Off and you go in to momentary mode.

I believe you break battery contact to get out of momentary mode.

@ JasonWW: Nice! After going into momentary on mode, will the switch have some more functions, like, a full click, etc. while in that momentary ON mode, or will that be its only function/mode?

I can’t decipher the illustration.

Both the “updated design with bead-blasted surface and light grey anodizing” and 2nd prototype photo look great.

Please put me on the interest list. Can’t wait to order one!

Are you thinking this has a mechanical clicky switch where you can do half presses and full presses?

No, this is an e-switch. So when in momentary mode it’s hold button – On. Release button – Off. Just like a NarsilM light from version 1.2 and up. So no other functions.

I’m not sure if the momentary mode in Anduril is Turbo only or a setable level. I’m also not sure how to get out of that mode. It’s a good question for ToyKeeper or someone with a ROT66 running Anduril. I don’t have an Anduril light yet.

I guess we all thank you for those answers!! And we also hope that in this “final phase” there will be more communication at least for the team, and then to the interested people here on the thread!

If I may ask this, I would like to know if it is possible for the Team to inform us when the final decision about when the production will start and with which LEDs (XPL-HI first, and Samsung later; or all at the same time).
I have my FW3A Giveaway still active but I will need to sort the winner, and the information about date and LEDs will be important for me, due to the payments and also ‘cause I gave the possibility to chose the emitters, in case of more than 1 type was going to be used.

If this is possible, I would appreciate! Thanks Smile

Yeah, more like the mechanical momentary function.

I don’t have an Andúril light but if my notes correct according to Post #3 momentary does use the brightness you used before in the normal ramp.

To get out of it: Disconnect the battery.
It is the only function.

joechina, that isn’t a rendering… it’s Fritz’s light he made as the original prototype. Raw knurling straight off the lathe does indeed look just exactly like that. This is the kind of thing you know when you have done it yourself. I just haven’t had a lot of luck making it look that good…
