[Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

Also for the record….I wish they had NOT potted the light so we could mod it with the same emitter that the E01 currently uses :stuck_out_tongue:
Joking of course.

Thanks for your first impressions all who have already received their lights. Great to see that Sofirn got the potting right for the production models.

I'm looking forward to the red and blue versions, hopefully they'll arrive soon.

OK…. I see what you are referring to now…. the difference in the potting compound used.
That is basically a non-issue to me on these lights, but…. I understand it might give some pause because of making the light basically unmodable. :+1:

I’m kinda slow, so I’m not sure where the video you linked to [It’s good though. ] fits in with ’potting’…… But the video is hilarious!!
Thanks for sharing it…… :+1:

^ did we do that? :innocent:

Do what? Force Fenix to introduce HI CRI update of E01?

Ali says…

I mean, I have patience. Some (kind souls) may even say that I embody or personify patience. But if you’re asking me to BE PATIENCE, WELL THAT’S JUST GOING TOO FAR!! THESE ARE FLASHLIGHTS WE’RE TALKING ABOUT!!! I want them NOWWWWWWWWWWW!

Would that make the new Fenix a C01 clone? The plot thickens.

No, Fenix did.

Just to be sure, today I made a phone call to Fenix Netherlands. A nice lady on the phone told me that the status of the Fenix E01 in her computer system was “discontinued”, since autumn 2018. “Discontinued” according to her meant that this specific flashlight is no longer produced by Fenix, and they no longer could order new E01s for sale in the Netherlands. Then I asked her if there would be an updated version of the E01, and she told me she could not find any information about a newer version. Adding: “But we have lots of other new keychain lights, which are actually much brighter, and some even have a usb port…”

If anyone from Fenix management ever reads this message:
You should proudly care for your E01, it deserves your love;
and not silently walk away from your creation, to let it die, alone in the dark.

Has anyone else received their C01s yet?
And if so, what is your first impression?

Nope. Ordered it when it first became available.

Not received yet
I got a shipping notice on Nov 12, 2018

tracking says it was sorted 2 weeks later
Despatch from Sorting Center(GuangDongShengGuangZhouShi GUANGZHOU) at 2018-11-26 22:51:14

it seems the item is still in China

My order is still in China as well.

So only a few in Europe have been delivered yet. Having been so involved in the process, I’m pretty curious how people like them.

I’ll let you know ASAP, I believe I should get mine next week.

Ordered nov. 10th, arrived nov. 26th, so that was pretty fast!
First impression: very well manufactured, especially for that price.
Closer look: petite, but certainly not feeling as fragile as other AAA lights.
And of course quality in the details, such as he noir/djozz-tail.
Have not (yet) tried the clip, but it sure does not feel flimsy.

While we wait for the colored anodized versions, I noticed a couple interesting things on the Yuji webstore:

- The 3200K BC series 5mm LED’s are now sold out in the 60 degree version, too. Both beam angles of 5600K remain in stock.

- There is a new 5.5mm x 5.5mm format surface mount “5mm” LED. It’s rated at 60mA and about 20 lumens, and has a 60 degree beam angle. Nominal voltage is 0.1V higher, but claimed R9 value is now greater than 90 (for the standard 5mm it was listed as 60 typical).

Interesting find iamlucky13!

I guess Yuji sees more future in the 5555L than the F5?

Edit: the name of the 5555L is: BC Series High CRI Small Angle F5 Replacement LED SMD -5555L

Sounds like a good reason for existence of C01 V2.0
