[2018-11-30] Report post button

OMG!
Mountain Momma! I’m coming home!
I’ve been amiss counting my pennies!
You need them more than me!

I’d urge those who got off topic in the in the mail thread —- no matter how much you believe you weren’t part of the problem — please reread this from the last post:

How to find your posts: “search within thread” by Author (your userid)

Why do I ask? Because as of today I’m up to ten flashlights on the way.
Mail carrier came and went, leaving me nothing.
And I thought the thread worth saving.
It helps me with self-control, alway good to practice.

Om.

FlashPilot, there may be unfortunate history related to CPF and Greta, but there’s no need to be mean about it. :frowning:

I need a "+1 Lumen" button to agree to posts like the quoted one and make them stand out in a positive way with a visible counter that shows how many people share the opinion or are thankful for the post.

not only reporting Trolls and idiots helps to be a better community

1 Thank

:+1: … +1 LumenAgreed.

Such a shame, I liked my rude points, If I don’t have at least one I must have been doing something wrong, or gone away for too many days.

Skating on the edge of thin ice is a thrill. And puncturing pomposity a pleasure.

“Reported posts” somehow just doesn’t have the same cachet.

I’d hate to be, simply, ignored …

Sometimes it is the grit in the oyster that seeds the pearl. But mostly it’s just a dirty mess. Nevertheless, the grit is required, if you want a few pearls.

I have to agree with tom tom here . I like old school BLF where you just ripped the trolls a new one publicly . It put fear into newbies and let people know rampant stupidity wasn’t tolerated. It made this place the friendliest forum on the internet ‘’ something you don’t hear anymore .

That said all trolls ought to be banned .

I have grown to hate this politically correct bs and think we all should stand or fall on our own merits . BLF members only ought to ask other members to be more generous and have more fun . Asking them to act like girl scouts is just retarded . We are men and it’s a mans forum not a family oriented forum .. that’s just a bad argument.. This kids looking over your shoulder business is just a bunch of crap .

Every great and memorable member here has had an edgy opinionate attitude . The milk toast versions are wholly forgettable. My opinion is Man up and realize that life has sharp edges. Matters that are important to us are attached to our emotions and anything worth discussing is going to have dissenting opinions . Asking people to not talk about certain topics is just censorship .

I’ve never been a fan of the rude button . I think it enables people who have no idea how the forum has worked in the past to have an opinion and seemingly rule . The internet is a place now where everyone now has an opinion and can voice it . I see the forum as more of a family ... where the kids don’t rule . Where their opinion is allowed but does’t matter .

I’d kill the rude button I’d kill the quote button ... or kill ability to quote a quote of a quoted quote ... because nitpicking someone elses post is generally just a borishly trashy way to post on a forum . It also makes the forum unreadable..It’s the height of laziness at the expense of the whole forum / did someone somehow forget that you can cut copy and pasre? /:I’d kill all the affiliate linking and anyone who sought to monitize the forums membership . And I’d kill all posting / reposting / posting one post after another . Either edit your last post or shut up till someone else speaks or answers your rants. I’d chastize members who have post counts higher thAn the owner of the forum .i’d consider rating members posts / I’ve endlessly been a fan of doing true from the heart giveaways not vendor generated. I’d delete all vanity posts and personally have no respect for the super reviews . It might look good if you own the forum but I’d trade all of them for just honest people discussing the light they’ve purchased . I hate the vanity and pride exhibited here and have generally attributed it to the exodus of CPF members and a smug attitude that can come with them . People who brag about a flashlight can up and **** it . How anyone can think some kind of self importance can be had because of purchasing a 300$ object is just dumbfounding to me . Who do people think they are??? Members who brag about their lights output after doing a mod but never show you or tell you what they’ve done are pathetic losers . TomE was the classic example of a great blf member . He shared he showed he gave back .

The way BLF is going you’ve got nothing but greed and selfishness ruling the roost. Like it or not the blame falls on mr admin. to reverse the course blf has been on .

Together we can make BLF great again ...but not by being a bunch of pansies .

allowing stupidity and greed to rule the day had become a recipe for disaster. Kill the one guy making money off of all of your friends /affiliate BS . And let people openly talk in a free forum unencumbered about deals and life and the heart of the members will shine again . Keep it as a Slickdeals site and you’re encouraging base behavior like greed and selfishness( the only two things that keep the affiliate/ shills in power) ... that and .. fear .

Make BLF great again ....

I just clicked the “Like” button Boaz….

Rewording the above on sb’s suggestion…

Thank you boaz

I don’t like the idea of a +1 / Like button, because the Report button is not meant as a –1 / Dislike button. BLF is not Reddit, and I don’t want it to even come close to that toxic environment created by people who seem to post with the sole intention of standing out from the crowd, with no respect whatsoever for the content or tone of what they post. The Report button is to alert the poster and me that a given post violates the BLF Rules, and not to express your personal opinion of the post. As others have said in other threads about this same subject, if you want to express your thanks for a post, by all means take the time to post a quick public “thank you” and/or send a PM, which helps contribute to the friendly and generous atmosphere here.

rating a post may not be a worthwhile idea but anything is better than a half page of quotes of quoted quotes for a person to say .... + 1 .

please kill the quote button !

+1

Like buttons turn the forum into a good old boys club in my opinion. I’ve seen other forums where the newcomer posts and then everyone piles on in support of the long established forum member whether it is warranted or not.

Thank you SB, both for the forum overall, and for this thread.

>quotes

I think I recall one of the non-testosterone-soaked programmers who participates here describing a way to use Stylish to avoid seeing deeply nested quotes. And also a way to block seeing annoying signature blocks over and over.

I like the quote button.

It lets everyone know what I am responding to, plus Boaz doesn't like it, so it has to be good.

(I'm not a fan of big nested quotes, however.)

That bunch of crap is the way our administrator wants this forum to be, it is in the rules that you are not allowed to be rude, use dirty language etc. And IMO that is also not needed for a flashlight forum, which is not a man’s forum (whatever a mans forum may look like). There’s probably places on the internet for the type of men who like to express themselves in ways you do not want your cildren to watch and I for one am glad that BLF is not such a place. And not just because my son does look over my shoulder every now and then.

1 Thank

A plethora of Social Sites exist for those in need.
Clemence wrote BLF is about testing, not arguing.
Perhaps becoming more relevant has not pleased everybody.
Those who are most interested in actually using flashlights have sb,
and the serious members who are setting the pace to thank.

Thank you djozz. Well said.

A gentle message:

Which was subtle, inoffensive, but made a serious point at a time of great change and disruption here.

Brixton riots and the rest. Just waiting to kick off again, stoked by the usual suspects. It’s a powderkeg. We really do know how to do a good riot, when provoked, and can even beat the French at that.

Maybe time to let off some steam, I think it’s time for a release.

Now, it’s coming again (29 March). Mark it in your diaries and stay away.

I like that music, it was the time that my musical taste was formed and I especially liked the Specials. I have their (just 2, Specials, More Specials) records on vinyl and have to repair my record player at some point to listen to them again.

Well, you’re both right.
The question is where the red line should be drawn.

Kids know people sometimes use “bad” language, by the way.
They use it themselves too.
It also depends on the context if it’s over the red line or not.

We should be able to behave “normal” here i.m.o.
