[Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

I managed to remove black paint from the clip. I think it actually looks much better with bare steel.

How did you remove the paint?

Soo… I started off with my nail but then switched off to Spyderco Tri-angle safety guard  - essentially just a brass rod not to scratch the finish. After most of it was gone I just finished off tricky spots with chisel tool from my multitool.
I’d say it’s max 10 min work. Paint is barely holding on it (it’s nicely polished steel underneath).

BLF GT nano edition

So regarding the Sofirn C01 pocket clips:
Prototype: clip not good, breaks.
First production batch: clip is good, strong.
Second production batch: clip is not good, bends.

Like you already said, chabuduo

Yep. I showed him this thread, and then we had this conversation:
He: “OMG dad! Your profile picture with that small keychain thingy, is … well … not good.”
Me: “But I want to make a statement.”
He: “Here, wait, I will draw you a new picture.”
New generation, digital native.

Quality, not quantity, that is what this light is about.
For more quantity&quality, look for a 4000K SST-20 LED flashlight, google Emisar D4.
Or just order any flashlight that is improved by Virence.

Good to have you on board with the C01
And thanks for your measurements, especially for the combined 3200K+5600K chart, that one specifically means a lot to me.
You are a fantastic asset for the flashaholic community.

I have received all my 5 lights from the interest list now: of my 4 3200K C01, 3 are above BBL and only 1 is rosy tinted.
So tint lottery is a trait the Sofirn C01s share with the Zebralights :person_facepalming:

I do agree with iamlucky13 here, even my C01s with above BBL Yuji are still great in actual use.
And miles ahead in light quality of any other 5mm LED flashlight that is commercially available right now.

Great idea! You identified a trend which will become available in commercial flashlights in due time. There is a Japanese brand of lanterns that already does exactly this (can not remember name right now). You already see it in other domains: IKEA is selling cheap LED lights for fixed armatures that can change to a warmer CCT when dimmed down.

Ah, I see, the mechanical way.

Well, that is sort of good and bad news: the good news is that the paint comes of easily if you want a shiny silver clip, the bad news is that the paint comes of easily...

I think a bare metal clip (without paint) would have been nicer (perhaps Sofirn could switch to unpainted silver clips for the next batch).

Mine is also soft. maybe if i heat it up to red hot and then cool it down in water or oil the metal will harden a bit. will try that tomorrow.

One thing is for sure, it will not hurt to try. It is worthless as it is.

About the weak clip, we talked with the supplier who told clips are from the same mould, so it might be different material. The QC workmake will talk with the supplier seriously today and resolve this issue.

Furthermore, we were suggested to use new led of yuji which is more powerful than the existing 5mm but without legs

no, but you can get a Peak Eiger that can do that

You have done a fantastic job of building a high CRI light, with a choice of two color temperatures, and for a
very low price.

Thank You!

thanks for the link to the Yuji LEDs, it gives lumen values
existing C01 LED: 6.1-8.8 lm
alternative LED: 18-22 lm

suggestion:
The 18 lumen version would be really cool with a QTC, like the Eiger uses .
But skip the LiIon compatibility, to keep the cost down… I dont need 100 lumens from AAA… 20 is plenty for what that little light needs to do.

.

I wonder if there is interest in a Special BLF group buy for a Copper Sofirn C18 with QTC?

Infinitely variable from 0-20 lumens, at the twist of your fingers… whats not to Love?

Beamshot required!

Actually, the Djozz dedomed style would probably work best for this, but I don’t suggest doing that to your light.

Depends on the material. There’s a good chance it only gets very brittle and snaps at first use.
It is for a reason that the Dutch version of the expression “the tricks of the trade” is “het geheim van de smid” (the secret of the blacksmith).

1m to white door. the bright white ball is the reflection. pretty nice throw

[quote=Henk4U2]

Very true Henk4U2. :+1: …. But it is worthless as it is, so on the offhand chance it might work, it won’t hurt to try.

Tempering after this makeshift ‘heat treating’ attempt might well relieve some of the brittleness.

If you do try it polarweis, let us know the outcome please.

There are 2 more SC01 in Germany.

Must be from the first batch. The clip fits tight. Seems good quality :+1:

Knurling is definitely not on the aggressive Side. The Threads are really smooth. Turning on and off works very well

I´m very happy both with the Light intensity (between the low and the Mid of a Lumintop EDC01) and the Light colour

I would say the BLF Team that realized this Light and Sofirn did a very good Job :+1:

Thank´s a lot for this

and Greetings from Germany

Lumintop tint doesn’t look too bad on these pictures either. What would you say?

both are sofirn i think.

:person_facepalming:
I thought I’m expecting too much from XP-G3…

Oh, Sorry for not clarifying

Yes both are Sofirn C01, 5600K and 3200K

Here is a direct comparison with the Lumintop EDC01 on low and Med

Without direct comparison it appears to be a pure white :+1:

Doesn’t look too bad to be honest. One is on my way anyway but I was just wondering if I’m not gonna be embarassed if I give it as a gift to someone
