About the weak clip, we talked with the supplier who told clips are from the same mould, so it might be different material. The QC workmake will talk with the supplier seriously today and resolve this issue.

no, but you can get a Peak Eiger that can do that

existing C01 LED: 6.1-8.8 lm
alternative LED: 18-22 lm

suggestion:
The 18 lumen version would be really cool with a QTC, like the Eiger uses .
But skip the LiIon compatibility, to keep the cost down… I dont need 100 lumens from AAA… 20 is plenty for what that little light needs to do.

Infinitely variable from 0-20 lumens, at the twist of your fingers… whats not to Love?

Depends on the material. There’s a good chance it only gets very brittle and snaps at first use.
It is for a reason that the Dutch version of the expression “the tricks of the trade” is “het geheim van de smid” (the secret of the blacksmith).

Very true Henk4U2. :+1: …. But it is worthless as it is, so on the offhand chance it might work, it won’t hurt to try.

Tempering after this makeshift ‘heat treating’ attempt might well relieve some of the brittleness.

If you do try it polarweis, let us know the outcome please.

There are 2 more SC01 in Germany.

Must be from the first batch. The clip fits tight. Seems good quality

Knurling is definitely not on the aggressive Side. The Threads are really smooth. Turning on and off works very well

I´m very happy both with the Light intensity (between the low and the Mid of a Lumintop EDC01) and the Light colour

I would say the BLF Team that realized this Light and Sofirn did a very good Job

The EDC01 w XP-G3 has Green Tint, and is Not High CRI, so not the same Quality of Light, as the Sofirn CO1 w Yuji

For people that want to go beyond the single mode Sofirn C01, but still with High CRI in AAA size, I highly recommend Clemence’s latest offering, a High CRI 3 mode AAA light

So i threw the clip in my fireplace. The black paint was gone real fast. Waited till red hot and dipped it in olive oil(extra virgin lol). Then i tempered it by hanging it on the metal fireshield(around 200c) for 2 hours. Its much harder now but can still be bend.

I would say definitely yes, that the artifact in the Sofirn C01 is caused by the shiny cone.

My Utorch S1 Mini with shiny bezel, has a round artifact in the center of the beam, on right.

l-r 2000k E21a, 4500k N219b, 6500k XP-L

the light on the left has black magic marker on the bezel, the center light has black paint, on the right shiny
Note the three lights pictured, Utorch S1 Mini, have Aspheric Lenses, same as the Yuji LED. They are NOT supposed to have a hotspot.

You said you went to “red hot” & got some results.
When mine get here I think I am going to try going a bit hotter, into the ‘Orange hot’ range; temper a bit hotter too & see what happens.
It would sure help if we knew what metal the clip was made of.

Edit: It would seem to indicate, since you were able to achieve some degree of hardness; it is not ‘mild steel’ at least.

Yeah i think with more heat it will get a little bit harder. It will get a strange blue color tho.

They say its hot enough when its not magnetic any more. Mine was still magnetic. I think you really need a torch to get enough heat.

Yep, you are correct about the “not magnetic”. :+1:

A torch will work just fine or a ‘heat treat oven’ if one has access to it. Fortunately I do.

It will be a ‘crap shoot’ getting it right on this unknown metal… but if we can figure it out by trial & error… we can share it for anyone interested.
