[Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

[quote=polarweis]

Perhaps not quite as throwy as the initial GT, but thanks for indulging my curiosity about how it would look with that big reflector.

That’s good info polarweis, thank you. :+1:
You said you went to “red hot” & got some results.
When mine get here I think I am going to try going a bit hotter, into the ‘Orange hot’ range; temper a bit hotter too & see what happens.
It would sure help if we knew what metal the clip was made of.
…….
Edit: It would seem to indicate, since you were able to achieve some degree of hardness; it is not ‘mild steel’ at least.

Yeah i think with more heat it will get a little bit harder. It will get a strange blue color tho.

They say its hot enough when its not magnetic any more. Mine was still magnetic. I think you really need a torch to get enough heat.

Yep, you are correct about the “not magnetic”. :+1:

A torch will work just fine or a ‘heat treat oven’ if one has access to it. Fortunately I do.

It will be a ‘crap shoot’ getting it right on this unknown metal… but if we can figure it out by trial & error… we can share it for anyone interested.

The info you shared is a great start… :+1:

Just want to say that I received mine 3 days ago. I bought it 10th November, so it took 32 days to get to the UK. I like the 5600K tint alot, it's the best cool tint I've seen so far. Great job to everyone who was involved to get this light into production!

Thanks John, good to know. I ordered mine a day after you, so hopefully they’ll be here soon!

Mine are in US last week, but damn, once in ISC cutoms in New York OR Chicago….it can be another 2 weeks to get to me in southern US….I’m used to it after so many years, so I’ve learned to just wait and wait and wait……. :innocent: :smiling_imp: :person_facepalming:

When I saw the top picture, I first thought it looked like that itty bitty animal they’ve found that apparently can’t be killed! Facepalm

Perhaps this is good info who receives a C01 with bending clip that does not have any springiness to it.

Btw, I managed to convince Sofirn that their clips are faulty, they admit that the heating process was wrong and they sent what is left of the batch back to the manufacturer for improvement.

Inspired by polarweiss I tried his method of hardening the clip, warmed up to orange, quencing in vegetable oil, keeping it at 200 degrees for 2 hours. Nothing happened, fail, no springiness at all was achieved.

Then I did not care about the clip becoming brittle anymore, blowtorched it to almost yellow, next to the fast running tap, and while orange/yellow dunked it under the stream and presto: perfect springiness without being too brittle it seems sofar.

I video’ed it:

Thank you djozz!! It appears you got the right ’formula’…… :+1:

Heat to yellow-orange & fast running water quench.

Anyone tried runtime on lithium yet?

If that is the case, a glass of “aqua on the rocks” could even be better.

Won’t it completely burn?

I’m still waiting for my 2 lights :expressionless:

Very true…. :+1: Might be worth a try to see???

Lithium ≠ Li-Ion.

Lithium primary batteries (Energizer Ultimate Lithium L92) are completely fine to use, Li-Ion on the other hand should not be use in the C01 (bad things will happen if you do).

I received my light yesterday, delivered to Florida. Ordered on November 10 and delivered on December 15, so 35 days. Just passing along this info for those still waiting on delivery in the US.

I would like to order one of each tint. I see there are some issues with weak pocket clips.
Is there a good aftermarket clip I can buy separately that fits the light?
Or is there expected to be a new batch rolled in soon that addresses the issues? I don’t want to be too demanding for $6.

Thanks, still waiting on mine ordered at the same time. Did your tracking update at all?

Thanks Noir.

I am :person_facepalming: !
When I read Lithium my brain processed Li-Ion, so my bad :zipper_mouth_face:

Despite that, my lights still are somewhere in a wharehouse in China or in freakin’ slow boat in the ocean :expressionless:

Never fear MascaratumB, they will be there soon; he’s rowing fast as he can…
