Having trouble accessing BLF? Here's a guide to the web browser Opera that may help.

I used to have a lot of trouble accessing BLF.

At times, I couldn't open threads, I couldn't preview posts, I couldn't post anything, or I couldn't access PM's, etc.

The problem was my internet connection.

I have satellite internet, and it has abysmal latency.

I contacted Mr. Admin, and after I performed some tests on my computers, he recommended the web browser Opera with its data-saving proxy mode enabled.

I've been using Opera for over a month now, and BLF works much better with it than any other browser I have tried.

(Please note, Opera is not perfect. It's just the best I have found.)

If BLF works fine with your current browser, I don't see a need to use Opera.

Otherwise, keep reading...

Here's the web page to download Opera for Windows:

https://www.opera.com/computer

(If you don't use Windows, use the above link and click on your Operating System or "Mobile apps" near the top of the page.)

Note: The rest of this guide is for the Windows version, which is the only version I have used.

Once you install Opera, you need to Enable Opera Turbo.

Click on Menu.

Click on Settings.

In the bottom-left corner, click on Show advanced settings.

Click on Browser in the upper-left area.

Scroll all the way down, and click Enable Opera Turbo.

If you would like to use Chrome Extensions in Opera, go to this page and install this Opera extension:

https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/install-chrome-extensions/

Now you can install Chrome Extensions here:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions

To disable Smooth Scrolling, go here:

opera://flags/

Search for Smooth, and disable.

To disable "Scroll on tab click," go here:

opera://flags/

Search for Scroll Active Tab on Click, and disable.

To do a hard refresh in Opera,

Hit Ctrl+F5

or hit Shift+F5

So, there you have it.

A simple overview of Opera, with a few tricks that I use.

I hope this guide is useful to anyone that is having trouble accessing BLF.

Thanks RC, I use to be a hardcore Opera user. Never would use anything else. It was quick and easy, no fluff, just simple. Haven’t used it in a few years now. Maybe I should get back to it and get the mighty Google out of my life.

Opera is based on Google Chrome or Chromium, which is why their extensions work, so I don't know if Google will be out of your life with Opera.

Technically, Opera is based on Blink, the open source rendering/layout engine used in Chrome and Chromium. AFAIK, that doesn’t do any mass surveillance for Google. But, Opera is not Free or open source, so you’re trading Google for Opera, and unless you work pretty hard, you won’t know what information they’re gathering from you. Sixes, if you ask me.

Have they been working on the website? It is acting really weird. Had to get here through a thread search on Google.
This is more of a test to see if posts are actually getting posted.

Edit: OK it is working now. NM

The site was down this morning.

Fine to be back again. My old Celeron steam-loc is driven by Firefox

Very nice format, i know it from an mma forum, i had to make a request for a new password and everything is good… !

It would much much better if we can put gifs on our Avatars… ! If we can upload a square 300 X 300 X 3kb would be o good one… and then, the system (Avatar Editor) could do all the adjustments - scale downs so it can fit them in the other applications… !
