Andúril 2 coming to Sofirn - The general Sofirn development thread

I filled it out.

Good idea but then it won't make any sense for me to keep track of the ideas posted here on BLF and do some kind of summary in the OP. Whatever the outcome of this survey will be, I'll be happy to put the results into the OP. Feel free to contact me via PM, Sofirn.

Done.

Yeah, thanks. Let’s give it some time to collect more replies.

I added some input on the Google tool, hope it helps…

I'll have everything this man is having!

(Your English is great, no need to worry my friend.)

I suggested in the Google document a triple or quad in the size of their SP33 with either a 26650 or 21700. It would be another alternative to the D4S and E07 which seem to be very popular right now.

I’d love to know what ideas are inspiring to Sofirn right now.

received 28 answers, I found many want 4000K-5000K tint, want XHP series or samsang leds for more power or more distance or higher CRI or better beam.

some like usb charging some don’t like. some want more body colors like Red, sand/tan, navy Blue etc.

More people want another new version of C8F and SP33.

We will talk about in the meeting.

Anymore ideas? Please keep going.

I would love an SP36 in a 3500K to 4000K. Maybe even with SST-20’s.

Updated sf30. Could be simple as driven harder to produce 1000 lumens.
Or a emitter swap to xpl hi.
Or even another sale again. About a year ago these went on sale for $5.99 on amazon. Discount code maybe?

Do you plan on producing the SP36 with Andúril?

So far, Sofirn is already collaborating with Utorch. Right? I ask you to think about the idea to renew or buy out the Utorch UT03 Triple CREE XHP70 project under the brand Sofirn. Or implement it on 3 * XHP50 or 4 * XHP50 emitters.
These would be very practical lights, powerful and without problems with overheating.

Some tells new new colors: Purple, navy blue, sand/tan…

We tried Purple but always more like red, not satisfied.

How does sand/tan color look like?

Sand/tan look good. Also bring back NW tint please.

I would like if Sofirn will soon finish the LT1 lantern and the Q8 extension tubes. Preferably those have matching threads so the lantern can use the extension tubes as well.

Also, it would be great if Sofirn would make another edition of the Q8 using OSRAM KW CSLNM1.TG (1mm2) “Flat White” emitters, giving it a super tight beam with great throw, and still over 2000lm output, in a “soda can” style light.

I still think what could be a real winner would be a tubelight that takes standard 20mm TIR lenses. This way they can be swapped easily (well, as long as nothing’s glued  ) to go from a tight beam to a wide flood, clear or pebbled, and even oblong (for using as a bike-light).

Sofirn wouldn’t have to source all the TIRs, but it might be nice. But anyone then could swap in the TIR of choice.

Eg, the SP32A would be a good candidate for something like that. Any XP/3535 chip would be a good candidate for TIRs.

Or… if you still like reflectors, a shallow reflector that would be the same height as a TIR lens could satisfy anyone who “needs” a reflector, yet still be able to use a TIR after the fact. Shallow reflectors won’t be good for throw, but (nudge nudge wink wink) would be “made” for substituting a TIR lens.

I'd avoid all the silly colors and stay with solid rich deeper colors like dark chocolate brown dark greyish army greens or dark blue and sand but even then a darker sand like convoy c8 has ..I'd never make pastel girly colored lights no matter how many people asked for orange yellow or pink .never never never .

I'd also almost always make a naked no ano version since it costs nothing extra . High cri lights are always appreciated and Sofirn has gotten a bunch of credit for just those slightly warmer tints(5700?5300k?) vs cool white garbage everyone else uses .

I'd make an interesting Headlamp ...and applaud you for working on a blf lantern project

Gearbest did quit. Don’t know why this project cancelled and don’t know how many people still want this light. But Sofirn do wanna make a new light of >10K lumens.

I personally prefer 4* XHP50.2 emitters.

Correct me if I am wrong but did not Sofirn plan to build a Q8 with 4x XHP50.2 some months ago, did they? That should be feasible without too many changes except for the driver and the extension carriers (2s2p instead of 4p IIRC).

A driver for 4 xhp50.2 might be tricky since I don’t think you can use a FET design. The xhp50.2 are known to be quite sensitive to current consumption and are easily burned up by 2 x 18350 cells. Maybe there is a way to use a FET and still limit the max current? I think Texas_Ace was able to do this with 4S 18650 and 3 x xhp35. Careful selection of MOSFET and springs in the carrier were able to keep the LEDs in the safe zone.

I’m not sure about a Buck or Boost driver designs. Producing 10,000 lumen might require a very expensive driver design. Lexel probably knows for sure since he designed a 30,000 lumen buck driver for 10 x 18650 cells (21v IIRC). His lower powered bucks are still quite pricey.
