Dorcy FLASHLIGHT WITH 9V ALKALINE BATTERY

I notices that Dorcy is making 9V 6 LED light. I looks as if it might be good for a long (week +) hike. I did not see it mentionned here. Has anyone tried it? For $3.00 and free shipping it is a true budget light.

Thanks, Jerry

IMO, something like a Sofirn C01 would be better.

Better beam, better color, uses a way better cell choice(AAA), and doesn’t start on high.

Also more durable.

The 9V battery is not really budget battery. The $ per miliampere is awful. The AA/AAA options are better. If a cheap host is needed, i have seen many 5/7 led options with 3xAAA for like a dollar.

It’s not just abut mAh.
It’s actually about Wh.

I modded one of those with an MT-G2

9V batteries usually have a capacity of about 550mAh.
Amazonbasics 9V batteries are $1.25 each

0.55 * 9 = 4.95Wh
4.95/1.25 = 3.96Wh/$

An AAA will have a capacity of about 1200mAh.
Amazonbasics AAAs are $0.20 each

1.2 * 1.5 = 1.8Wh
1.8/.2 = 9Wh/$

Thanks for the replies. Not as good a light as I thought. I was thinkingof a 9v battery light that is not produced anymore. I remember someone had claimed they went on a month long hike and did not deplete the battery. ?? Of course it put out a moonn mode light.

Paklite?

Much cheaper then the Paklite. I just went through there lights and its the most interesting one to me.

Mini Nitecore TM10K. :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you sure about that ,9 v battery’s are usually around 200 mah , lithium iron Rechargables are around 500-600mah.

I have several of these 9v “block lights” as they are sometimes called.

The 9 volt format is (edit) 3 6xAAA in series. That said, I have even used old 9 volt batteries laying around to power these little “block lights”.

I use them indoors late at nite bath trips etc. Seem to last forever on a 9 volt battery used or new. They have their place. I mean, if all you had access to was a single 9volt battery, you’d be glad you had the “block light” head to attach it to. :student:

I have one running on low, 2 leds, and will see if it runs 100 hours. I am very sceptical. The amount of lights appears to be about what my Fenix E01 puts out. The E01 runs slightly less than 9 hrs on alkys.

It would not run on NiMh Tenergy 9 V batteries. I am a little surprised.

Thanks for the “heads up” Jerry. Ordered two.

I am wondering how long it would run on a lithium? Hate to spend the money to find out. :money_mouth_face:
Jerry

6 × 1.5 = 9

Are you sure? I’ve charged Tenergy 9V’s to 9.4V’s and used them at only around 8.95V’s or so after they sat around for awhile and they still powered up alky designed 9V devices.

Unless this is an mAh issue. I use Tenergy Low Self-Discharge Centura’s @200mAh.

I hope you’re wrong cuz I just bought 7 of these.

Freshly Edited: Just received 14 of these today. Bought 7 for $21 and received 7 more free as part of the BOGO. At $1.50 each x 14 + 14 alkalines, so including shipping = one HELLUVA bargain in my book.

Butt more importantly THESE DO WORK WITH NiMh. Tested with 3 Tenergy’s as described above. One @ 8.92V, another 8.93V and one 9.04V. All work as well as the alkaline batts they came with. Decent output too.

I would double check your NiMh cell(s). My guess you do read adequate voltage but their mAh’s are kaput.

I’ll check, but I think it was a Tenergy Centura.
I’ll try agaain with another NiMh.

One of the heads is faulty. I’ll work with it tomorrow, but the Tenergy does work with one of the heads
Jerry

Likely will work. Ya might wanna change yer title now maybe by adding below it……(Works with NiMh too) or sumthing to that effect.

This was a great find, Jerry. Thanks. Great for giving to Muggles especially.

I was surprised how well these focus their beam. Decent hot spot and spill. You wouldn’t think it could come otta that rectangular array either butt it does. Switch works without a glitch and isn’t scratchy.

Dorcy did a dam good design job on these. In fact I’m buying 7/14 more if still available. :money_mouth_face:

This is the kind of BLF super bargain we used to see a lot of back in the good old days of LED mania. BLF’ers might consider at least a few for glove boxes, etc.

The NiMh capability is extra icing and kinda puts getting sum 9V rechargeable Tenergy’s for emergencies now more practically prudent IMO.
