Fireflies PL47 Flashlight

I have a question, the center of each optic right in front of the led looks like is frosted compared to my D4S which I can see clearly the led underneath, I am wondering what specific optic is it using, anyone knows?

Here is the frosting I see…

The first post says “15 degree angle TRI lens” is it a Carclo lens? I wonder if the Carclo 10621 would fit and would make an improvement over the stock one since it is not frosted…

Thanks!

Diffusion directly over the emitter creates a smoother hot spot, allowing the collimation factor from the sides of the TIR to do the job of focusing light without the disturbing direct output off the die interfering so much. This works great for the multi-die emitters in my experience, but don’t know why it would be necessary here unless to diffuse the odd hot spot of an XP-L HI

The SST20 4000K does look a bit brighter than the Nichia 219B SW45K (for the PL47 I checked)

I think from some other sources, it mentions some lumens rating of just about 1800-2000 lumens for the PL47 Nichia 219B whereas the SST20 4000K could be nearer to the rated 2500 lumens.

Perhaps someone who can do lumens test can verify.

Also, has anyone did runtime graphs for the PL47 (any LED)?

I just opened mine this morning. There is no lens on it at all. The reflector fell out as soon as I picked it up. Very disappointing. Hopefully Fireflies will make replacing my light easy.

That is weird since there is no reflector in the light… could you post a picture?

Sorry to hear. I’m sure you mean optics. That’s odd that it made it all the way there with no lens. Did you look closely in the box? Was the stainless bezel also missing? Does that bezel easily come off for you? If so you may just need a lens.

Wrong terminology perhaps. There is no glass lens or bezel with my light. Just the o-ring and tir reflector.

I can post a picture when I get home from work this evening.

I dug through the packaging and there is definitely no glass lens or bezel. It does have all the other accessories. The packaging did not look damaged or tampered with either. In fact, the light seems to work just fine. But obviously missing the lens is a major problem.
I have pictures but don’t have a way to post them.
I messaged Fireflies, hopefully they make this right….

You can use postimage.org

Deleted. Having trouble posting pics w post image on my new phone. Will try again soon.

Well if this link works I put a Armytek clip and a extra strong magnet on mine. It did good for it’s first day on the job.

Wow! :disappointed: Did the box have the “Quality Control” inspection sticker attached? Is it inspector 12? Hope you get your problem sorted out!

Just a bit too small for me to make out any details. Can you get them up to 800 or a 1000 res?

Looks great though with no bezel! How did you get it out? ( - only kidding...)

The box does have the QC sticker on it. I’m PMing with Fireflies now. Hopefully this is easily resolved.

Can you post a higher resolution picture of this photo?

You can see there is no glue residue on the bezel ring. Fireflies is taking care of the problem for me and was very quick to respond to my issue.

Ohhh, this is a smart AUX LED board. I see quite a few SMD's there. Interesting it's mounted up from the MCPCB.

Thanx for the better view!

EDIT: Ohhh, got my PL47! Very impressed! I love the aux lighting in the head, very much like the pics so I knew I'd like it. Wow, it is really compact for a 21700 light. Amazing the driver is packer up there so tight to the switch. So far it all looks good - dunno enough about Anduril to give it a full workout yet, but am learning.

I can report there's no test cell in there, the lens and bezel are in tact, not DOA, all LED's working, like the brightness of the blue aux LED's in the head - not too bright, not too dim. Mine is the SST-20 4000K, 95+ CRI model and the beam tint is a beauty - nice consistent milky white, decent hot spot so should get some throw.

Only minor issues:

  • the champagne finish is a slightly different color on the tube vs. the head and tail. Head and tail are the same. This is a very minor issue for me.
  • the lettering could be better, or maybe show better - could be the champagne finish, dunno. Again very minor issue.
  • the included head strap is not gonna work out so well. The light freely moved around in it so impossible to adjust the head angle. I'm sure I can find a better headstrap that fits - think someone mentioned one earlier.

It's a keeper for me, though I do eventually want access to the LED's and driver for re-programming. Want to at least update Anduril and might do some tweaks. I'll post anything I find on getting it open, hope others do as well.

Look at the lower right lens…Good that there’s “quality control”… :rage:

Also, it looks like there are 3 out of 4 legs broken?

I thought I posted this reply on my phone earlier but must have goofed it.

…anyway, the artifacts in the optics are identical on all the PL47s I’ve seen pictures of and it seems to be due to whatever mold was used for them. Doesn’t seem to affect beam profile at all. I know that a couple other guys running flashlight brands in China said TIRs are expensive and/or hard to come by so I think FF had to take whatever they could get.

I finally manage to remove bezel of my defective PL47. Now I can confirm it has sst-20 LEDs instead of nichia that I ordered. At least Jacky send me new one.
Three of the four optic’s legs are broken, two are exactly above mcpcb screws and the third one is above wires hole. The mcpcb has a hole the center, which is unused.
