Fireflies E07 preview

Congratulations! Would love to see your ZL SC600 in the comparison pic. :+1:

E07 SIZE COMPARISON WITH SOME CURRENT AND FORMER EDC’S

Wow. Doing pictures is hard. I think i got it worked out.
Unfortunately, i do not see the pic when i am in edit pane so i cant do a relevant comment, description. I.e. whats in the picture. So if you want that follow the link.

Link to description, if curious: Fireflies E07 size comps with some former/current edc's+. My lights get used. I shrink tube the caps so i can hold light with my teeth. And i shrink tube the clips because i wear them on my belt alot, so clip doesnt pop off. - Album on Imgur

Fyi. My lights get used. I put shrink tubing on the caps so i can hold with my teeth. And i put shrink tubing on the clips because i wear the lights alot on my belt and without the shrink wrap the clips tend to pop off. Thats whats on the lights that looks like tape. Its tooth protection. Oh, and sometimes i use heat shrink wine cork covers. Their slimmer.

Wow! There’s a man who uses his lights. Noticed some V54s. What’s your CPF screen name?

I prefer working at nite, so i use my lites a little bit.

Names the same over yonder but i dont do the comments much—unless i am on the hunt for a new lite. Been excited about 21700s, so i have been here alot lately—following fireflies. I will hang for a bit longer to see what they come up with next then i wont be back till i get the itch again.

Oh, that little lumintop sdmini is a fiat lux!

Mildlyangryjohnny, the E07 is very front heavy. You must have strong teeth.

M A J, sweet! Good that you have been around lately. I enjoy your contribution. That’s a nice Fiat Lux.

I have a E07vn on order with Oslon W2 LEDs. The 21700s have definitely brought some excitement to the forum! I have the PL47 and E07 is being built.

Thanks again for the pics my friend!

I did not do an extensive search on the chinese sites (I would worry about correct calibrations with unknown brands) but I’m afraid that these devices do not come cheap at all, I have not seen anything under $1200 yet.

Ha. Been chewing the nicotine gum every waking hour since 2002, so maybe.

I edc’d that acebeam 26650 ec50 for a couple 6 months, that one in the teeth was pretty heavy.

The e07 is a feather compared to that giant honkin thing.

Years ago it was the srt6, thats alot heavier than the e07 as well.

Fwiw, its not like its in my teeth for days. Usually an inspection event of some sort where i need to be handsfree is when it happens. Nonetheless, i had to start wrapping the ends cause i was cracking my teeth on the bare metal.

Edit: before i broke my heal last year i used to take the dogs out and always carried a 2x18650 thrower of one sort or another. In fact, I think it was an olight triton from like 10 or so, years ago was the reason i started wrapping the ends.

I passed the information about this issue on to the german TLF. There were two people who had the same issue.

Im interested though: Would you confront Fireflies or your dealer with this issue if it happened? Or are you good with it as long as it works as intended?

Anyone think it could be possible to see the broken leg without removing the optics? I ordered mine glued.

 Ahh, so that’s what the tape is on them for. Nice edc collection. Mine is ordered from nealsgadgets. Raw color purple aux with xpl hi 5000k. Can’t wait

If you got it glued and have no intention of opening it you should just not even look or worry. No point.

On another topic, this is my first 219B and I dont entirely see the appeal.

On most modes the tint is very nice but on turbo it’s SO much more pink than every other mode. I understand people like that but the fact it changes so much on turbo makes it annoying to me. If it was that shade of pink through the whole ramp it would be one thing but having it change so much on turbo makes me wonder why anyone puts these in anything other than a linear driver light.

I know but it still bugs me a little. I'll just pretend I never knew about it.

Its not tape actually. Tape has an “end” or “seam” and an adhesive. With regular, what i would call, use in an industrial like environment/ conditions, the tape seam tends to unfurl and unravel, with repeated use. and the adhesive gets all gooey and funky.

What i find works exceptionally well is large diameter shrink tubing. Think battery wrap but bigger, there are pvc ones and rubberish ones like you wrap wires with. I put a couple dots of double sided tape on the part i want to cover then shrink the tubing over it. The tubing actually finishes like a plastic shell, and the double sided tape keeps it from eventually spinning. The rubber version doesnt need dbl sided tape, kind of stays put over the long haul, but tend to finish thicker. The pvc which i prefer, because it finishes ao much thinner, may need a hit with the heat gun occasionally to tighten it up, and because i dont encapsulate the ends, rather like a band or ring. so without the dbl stick tape dots underneath the tubing, it would, slide off after a while

Then in the rare event i dont have a headlamp on, and i need both hands i can hold it with my teeth without damaging my face. Kind of like a reverse mouth guard. Works great.

No problem, it was a fun exercise. I dont keep my lights together as a collector would. Theyre all either stuffed in drawers or strategically placed thru out my shop, van, wherever. Fortunately i was at the shop, had a bunch of the little ones there. It was neat to see them all hanging out together like that, they dont do reunions often.

Anyway, i Thought it might be helpful for people to see that the e07 is a big gun with wee little tiny boots. I was delightfully surprised, i kept picturing the head of the ec50 or the srt6 kind of girthiness—i guess i was expectng a slightly shorter versiom of my srt6, which was—like the ec50, just dreadful as an edc. Even though i wore the big “edc’s” on belt, absolutely not pocketable. And i was really hoping this would whoop my zebralights ass and take its place in pocket because i guess i was just bored with her. And frankly zebralights minimal yearly upgrades were not appealing to me this time around.

And BAM! Winner. E07 is pretty metal. :smiling_imp:

I already had one of those moments when you buy something new and kind of want to keep it pristine, but because i build stuff i make a sorry mess of my tools, they get dropped and cut and burnt and grinded on sanded, all kinds of abuse. And there is the virginity breaking moment when it goes from being a really clean, fully painted, branding intact, nice “thing” to a crappy old work tool…

… i am 18 feet off the ground in my shop on an extension ladder, changing out some flourescent bulbs. And i took my new adorable little e07 out of my pocket to check a bad terminal and i put it in my teeth so i could fanagle with the terminal thing and i almost dropped her. Hadnt even been in my possession for 6hours yet.

I kill tools. Only one little scratch on the e07 so far, but theyre gonna add up real quick. She’ll get alot of use. Gonna mess her up really good.

Which means i gotta get the raw version, now.

Wow, just over a month to get it. Did you pay extra for faster shipping or just free shipping?

Wasnt an option when i ordered so must have been china post. I looked up my orders, went something like this:

PL47 (qty3) ordered 10/29, shipped 11/22, recvd 12/11 so from order to rcpt about ~45 days. I think it was still being designed when i ordered.

E07 (qty1) ordered 11/29*, shipped 12/9, recvd 1/4 from order to rcpt about ~37 days. *Ordered before coupon was available. With this one i was surprised when i got shipped email because there was a dated batch distribution, and gray was supposed to have been later. But i think i was really early to the party on this one—i didnt wait on the coupon, i think i technically ordered 11/28 but the confirmation didnt happen till the following day. I had followed the thread from the beginning, felt like i was on the team or something.

It was painful anticipation the whole time, but based on what the poor guys from canada are experiencing, i got super lucky.

I very much like the E07, gonna get at least one more and i’ll do dhl this time—because its offered, wasnt an option before. Fyi.: I live on east coast us, if that helps.

[Edit: as of this writing poor bobmcbob is into about 68+ days, and hasnt got his pl47. So yeah, i count myself super lucky.]

I took more measurements and here are the lumen results for 4 different E07:

E07 XP-L HI 6500k - QSO VTC6A 6,681; 30T 6,983
E07 XP-L HI 5000k - QSO VTC6A 6,551; Vapcell VTC6A 6,379; 30T 6,733; Vapcell 40T 6,810
E07 XP-L HI 5000k - QSO VTC6A 6,586; Vapcell VTC6A 6,630; 30T 7,327; Vapcell 40T 7,017; QSO 40T 6,983; LG M50 5,353
E07 219B sw45k 9080 - Vapcell VTC6A 3,707; 30T 4,301 (quickly dropping); Vapcell 40T 3,741; NCR21700A button top 2,828; LG M50 3,233

For some reason, I cannot reproduce the 7,570 lumen measurement again. The unit I measured 7,570 now only makes 7,357 lumens. Not sure if the emitters already degraded from me constantly blasting turbo or is it due to some other reason. I’m surprised the XP-L HI v3 6500k unit is not as bright as one of the XP-L HI v2 5000k unit.

I think the 40T is the ideal battery for the XP-L HI version. For the 219B version, I would think the NCR21700A recessed top with 15A would be the best battery but I don’t have a charger that can charge the recessed top and the soldered button top version adds an incredible amount of resistance. Otherwise the LG M50 is not bad for the 219B. The 40T might be pushing it too hard in the long run.

Also I really like the look of this light. The knurling and the very deep and functional heat fins look great. Most of the weight is in the head of the light where it is needed most for heat sinking. Jack said he designed the final prototype with super thick 8mm shelf. I couldn’t measure it but with the optics removed, it seems the shelf is probably not that thick but without removing the mcpcb and driver I can’t say for sure. But it did look like Fireflies listened to our request to increase surface area and mass in the head for better heat sinking and dissipation.

Machining quality is not as good as the Emisar series but not too bad. The clear anodizing version is OMG beautiful and a must have for anyone’s collection. Now I’m patiently waiting for a copper version.

One suggested improvement is to find or make an optic with larger TIR cups for more focused beam. There’s too much wasted space between the cups. Otherwise, I think the size of this optic can fit 10 cups and emitters for an even more amazing flooder good for 10k real OTF lumens.

Overall, this is the best pocketable EDC I’ve seen to date. It is also BY FAR the brightest single cell production flashlight in the world. It is twice as bright as the previous record holder, which is the Emisar D4S.

SKV89 you making us salivate waiting for ours to arrive. Those XPL-Hi numbers are very impressive. Is the Vapcell 40T same battery as the Samsung 40T? I ordered the 40T from Jack as well as both 5000k and 6500k XPL-Hi in grey and clear.

Yes Vapcell rewraps batteries. They are one of the more reputable rewrappers and Vapcell_Dennis frequents BLF.
