Mine arrived today. I went for grey with 219B and purple aux, and a 40T.
Of course it has a screw in the wrong hole, and a broken leg. I can see the stripped phillips head through the front. Also, the switch lights are not aligned with the body.
Apart from these issues, the light looks and feels great.
I appreciate that and understand your point completely.
Still, it’s hard to ignore that Fireflies has had some challenges with each of their last three releases. Not just one or two reports, but there have been more reports of complaints that make me think I see a trend.
I’ve said before (maybe in this thread) that this light could be a game changer with the output, size, UI and even the awesome looks. I would love to buy one, but the repeated reports of very similar issues makes me pause at this time. I’m not asking for perfection, just tightening up on the details, which I’d bet could be solved down the line with a little care and attention.
I’m not trying to dump on Fireflies. They are putting out lights that appeal to many of us here. They’re doing their homework in the areas of size, features, UI and power. Now if they could work out the kinks. they’d be quite the company.
I’m using default settings for my review but tbh having the temp set low allows me to reapply turbo within 10 mins. If you knocked the temp allowance up you could get another 10 seconds maybe initially but you would have to dial it right down or it’ll continue to get really hot and going to turbo again would be pointless, it’d step down in a second and get you over 60c as it continues to step down to a few hundred lumens.
I’ll probably whack it up a bit though as I only use my lights for reviews and showing off, never for sustained use.
So… there were complaints about short/narrow battery tubes and the wrong assembly resulting in them damaging the optics to somehow make it still work, damaging screws and other parts too. In the thread the manufacturer himself started. And the manufacturer keeps quiet the whole time? Not even a “we will look into that” or any explanation? Meh.
I’m one of the ones with the issues. To be clear the broken leg on the optics and the screw in the wrong hole does not affect the function of the light in any way and the short tube can be worked around by several different methods. I’m not happy that my lights have these issues but I still like the flashlight and am still glad to have it. For me the more irritating issue is the mushy button.
If you do additional clicks it adds time (in additional 30min increments) so perhaps you accidentally added time and didn’t wait long enough? I’ve never actually tried sunset mode, I like to use candle mode though (and set a 30 min timer) and it’s accurate to within a couple minute margin.
It’s like a night light that turns off, or a reading light that will dim and shut down when you fall asleep reading. That was the intention actually, according to TK.
I use Candlelight a lot, love it. Even with the big 17 emitter Ham’r, I primarily use it in candlelight mode. Lightning mode is impressive, sure it is, as is the tactical strobe, but I use it in a medium level to walk the trash to the road or when taking a hot bath to ease aching muscles/joints… so candlelight is the most used mode for me.
I think it uses the lowest ramp setting, so you can set it to be higher by raising the floor. I don’t believe there’s a settable timer on it like the additional 30 minutes on candlelight. Turn it on and leave it. See what it does…
You know, it is strange that fireflies started this thread and has not chimed in any to address anything. Not even a “we are fixing the issues customers are having with our quality control” ?
None of these Chinese companies prioritize checking these forums. Even for Giveaways which is free marketing for them they have to be reminded to come back and finish it. I reminded Vapcell about their giveaway and they were thankful and completed it within 15 minutes of me reminding them. They said they work out of the office mostly and just didn’t think to check back.
People should just contact them for support and come back here and post about their experience. I’m sure some of the issues are user error and some will be resolved in fair and unfair ways from the manufacturer, like any company and vendor. Those reports are more valuable in my opinion than some of the things being posted.
