I’m expecting an important package shipped by USPS and the tracking on their website is still working fine.
It has not been a problem for me either shipping a package to the US.
The USPS is largely a self-funded independent organization. They don’t get any federal money and are basically unaffected by the lack of federal money.
USPS has been very slow lately. Im tracking packages that are sitting in one distribution center in Cali for 4 days before moving again. This is the new normal.

I guess I gotta be patient. It’s just that it’s the first time where I have multiple packages that have been stuck at one place for so long.
I have noticed a problem with USPS informed delivery and tracking services lately. The packages keep showing up on time but it’s hit and miss on the online tracking. Haven’t had a delay on a package yet. Though I may this weekend with 6 inces of snow already on the ground and it’s still snowing. Nobody has control over that though so I don’t worry about it.
A package I ordered that shipped on Monday still does not have any tracking updates.
But it did arrive today

The USPS is slow period. Regardless of Government shutdown. My light was shipped on Black Friday. Just got it from USPS.
I noticed for a short time tracking was UNAVAILABLE on Thursday. That has happened before,no biggie as it is up and working now.
My Package from China[DHL] is now in the hands of USPS.

USPS Tracking has been working just fine for me. So has package delivery. 3 days from California to Alabama & 2 days from South Florida to NE Alabama. No complaints here. Speedy & sure as always for me. 
I’ve had no problem because of the shutdown. All my packages from USPS have arrived on time.
Yeah, a couple for me that were scheduled for a Monday delivery were (fruitlessly) out for delivery today.
You lucky man I am the opposite, have a priority package that has been over a week and they still taking there time.
The postal service is not funded by discretionary spending. They won’t be affected by any government shutdowns.
Dunno where you at, but here, in general things come on-schedule or even before. Only… twice?… has something actually taken longer than predicted. And sometimes it’s pretty retarded, like it’s still in a distribution center the day it’s supposed to be delivered, so of course unless someone drives it over, it ain’t gonna be delivered that day.
Once I had something scheduled for a Saturnday, and bam bam bam, overnight it went from distribution center, to the local hub, to the local PO, and then out for delivery that next morning, delivered on a Tuesday vs Saturnday. Was pretty amazed.
So… vast majority of the time it’s on/ahead of schedule, only rarely takes longer. Once it hits ISC New York, it’s usually spot-on. Only when it hits Chicago, Frisco, LA, etc., does it need to trek cross-country and then it’s a few days before any updates.
I usually only have problems when it involves their partnership with UPS or FedEx. Left separately they seem to do fine.
In recent months, I’ve had several misdirected parcels that have had a grand tour of the US while en route to my home. There have also been intermittent problems with the tracking service online. If those two things occur simultaneously, it might explain your current troubles. However, nothing has ultimately been lost. As others have said, your delays are not connected to the shut down.
So for those of you who are better experienced with USPS, should I be worried that my package has been in limbo since January 4th? Below is the tracking info since the package entered the country.
