NIGHTWATCH Avaritia NA40 SE: triple SST20 3000K, 4000K, 95cri, type-C rechargeable - $42.24 Code: NA40SE New photos in post #53

Some pics of the C8F 21700 w/351D 4000K's vs the NA40 w/SST-40's. The C8F as about a 44.5 mm head diameter while the NA40 is about 41 mm. The reflector cups are very slightly smaller than the C8F's. Again, mine is SMO and looks like the new NA40SE is OP, least that's what they show in the pics:

Wow more similar than I thought. Thanks for taking the time to do this. It is strange they switched to OP when the SST-20’s have a pretty nice beam that works fine with SMO. Maybe they had a different LED in mind for this originally.

Oopsie, had the last 2 pics labeled wrong -- fixed that.

Yeah, wonder why they did went with an OP. I'm sure there's loss's for throw. Based on the D4S specs, the best thrower LED seems to be the SST-20 at 5000K or little better at 6500K. The 3000K and 4000K's drop off quite a bit, but in the same % drop as does lumens.

Mine is incoming probably within the week.

Will be posting some shots with this baby in the family.

26980 batts and tube (reportedly 6,000mAh and 5mohm!):

!!

!!

Sorry, but I’m out.

I’m not quite convinced with this model.

What’s a 26980 ? Where is this tube ? Haven’t heard mention of either of these .

Just added in Neal’s website: 26980 tube available, and 26980 battery(6000mah, 5mΩ ) is $8 each,

Yeah , I guess I missed that when I ordered .

Must have to message Neil with that request.

I am about to remind him about this.

Edit: Stay tuned for website product page update

Edit: Site fixed, you can order the 26980 cell AND tube for the NA40SE

Thanks , got it

Got my grey Nightwatch NA40SE (3000k, 95cri) today: (the blueish tone is the effect of the CW Ledlenser K3 that I use to provide spot-lighting)

Spring-less tailcap, but a protrusion the size of 3mm (h) X 11mm dia. (not the same design in Tom E’s non-SE version.)

Below is the previous tail-cap of the non-SE version (photo courtesy of Tom E):

The front of the tube has to be unscrewed to expose the type-C charging port:

Thanks for the pics! Good to see they changed that tailcap design, though it looks like it won't work well with 18650's because of the width and flatness of the protrusion. In mine, the spring inside the battery tube was stiff and relatively short, so there wasn't much margin to fit differing size batteries - not sure how the spring looks, and how it handles battery sizes now.

I liked the matte finish, maybe anodized, finish of the SS bezel before but least they stayed with SS. The OP vs. SMO - I'm ok with that, no one else seems to use OP in reflector triples so it makes it unique. Probably better looking beam though it cuts down on throw.

Just might have to order this SE model now - great price for the quality of this light.

Yes, 18650s are just too wide to make contact with the protrusion.
!

However, the op reflector is an excellent match to 3 x SST20s, and oh yes, great price for the quality of this light, that’s true.

Yea, depends on the cell wrap's overlap. I guess they narrowed the protrusion, not just filled it in, because mine was pretty wide (can't measure right now). 11 mm is still twice as wide as most spring tops. Again, it all depends on the spring inside that battery tube -- anyone have a measurement or pic? It's fairly easy to remove the top USB charging assembly -- I did it a while back. I dunno - for the NA40 (non SE), I had to use magnets to get my batts to work properly but no one else seemed to complain about it. Or I just like to whine and pick bout something...

Interested

Has anyone tested these 26980 batteries yet? 5mOhm sounds way too good to believe it. There are some offers on AliExpress but it would be nice to know who's the manufacturer. I don't think this one will fit into any charging bay of available chargers except for those magnetic cable-chargers like Olight UC.

I'd like to no know more bout these as well. Someone should make the request of HKJ.
