Emisar D4 Mods

Try to reflash your light with Anduril. Lockout is 4 clicks, 1 more than you would like, but less than 6. I agree 6 is way to many for lockout. 4 is manageable IMO. Also get the bonus of when you press the button in lockout you can get some light, which IIRC is the bottom of the ramp. So if you are locked out, and need a little light, you can get it quickly. If the button is pushed accidentally during lockout you won’t run down the battery.

3 clicks is battery check, temp check sunset, and beacon mode.

Left in lowest, then driving home, hmm something is burning, oh its me.

Ill get some pics up later.

I like Anduril. Just got my E07 yesterday and I find the 4-click lockout acceptable. Still much slower than flipping up my cover and pressing once for turbo though.

I’ve never reflashed a driver, but how hard can it be? … maybe I should get the equipment and give it a shot.

It’s not that hard, but if you don’t have all the stuff already it’s not that easy either. If you wanted to mail me the driver I could do it for you. PM if if you are interested. I have already done a couple correctly.

You can do it

Filed down a nickel plated brass #14 finishing washer today. The plan is to mount it on a D4 around the switch boot to give more of a raised rim and make accidental pocket activation less likely. I haven’t decided which D4 to put it on, so it isn’t glued down yet. Once I decide, I’ll glue it on with arctic alumina.

Here’s the filed down #14 washer sitting next to an unmodded #14 washer from the same box:

Here it is sitting on a cyan D4:

And on a bare Titanium-copper D4:

Also did a little more work on my flip-up cover. I glued in a bit of paper clip bent into a “U” on the inside of the cover. This fully encloses the bottom of the boot when the cover is closed and provides a hard-stop so the cover doesn’t depress too much.

My conclusion:

  • The finishing washer looks excellent. When glued on it will look like the light came that way. However, it doesn’t completely eliminate the risk of accidental pocket activation. It just reduces it.
  • The flip up cover looks ok, especially when in the closed position. I took more care polishing and making a clean appearance than I did with the inside of the cover. Unfortunately, that means the inside of the cover doesn’t look good. I could try cleaning up excess glue inside it and polishing it or I could make a new cover with more care taken so that both the inside and outside look good.

Functionally, the flip cover seems more effective. When it is closed it locks into place from to the sides of the cover clamping down around the switch housing. To unlock it I have to slide my thumbnail under the back of the cover and press until the tension releases. There’s pretty much zero chance the light will ever accidentally activate in the pocket with the cover down. It gives me the confidence to EDC it when turned off in Turbo mode… something I wouldn’t dare do even with the ring or switchboot mod.

Very nice :+1:

Sweet switch mod.

Added red

Wow, that’s actually a very practical mod you did there Chadvone, great for lurking around protected urbex sites.

Here is my old post of my switch mod

Same as already suggested.

That’s cool, what’s happening there?

Really simple. Cut the trace on the single 7135, cut trace and isolate a single led on the quad, replace with a red xpe. I did it on a Emisar driver first, then ordered a TA driver from Lexel that he drilled a hole and separated the single 7135.

I adjusted Anduril ramping tables.

The way the ramping works, single 7135 for the lows now runs the red led.

:+1:

How I wish the Proton Pro would of worked.

Very clever!

I was originally planning on a single hi cri led. Still might swap out later.

Firelight2 I am waiting on your switch bezel. I looked for some washers at the hardware store but a no go. Did you get it glued on?

Wow. Nice file work on the washer. :+1:

Yup. I ended up installing the washer on my D4 with bare aluminum head. I removed the flip-up cover in order to install the washer. The washer is glued on with Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive. It can take the heat, is strong enough and the silver coloring helps any bits of glue blend in with the head.

I think it looks great! Much better than the flip-cover did. Downside is the washer doesn’t provide nearly as much protection from accidental turn-on compared to the flip-cover.

For the washers: I also looked in my local hardware store and didn’t find anything suitable. Steel finishing washers were available, but I find them too hard to file down. Nickel Plate Brass works well because the brass is easy to file down with a hand file and the nickel plating looks great. Best place to find them is probably Ebay or Amazon. The size you want for this light is #14.

My plan now is to flash Anduril in this light and install one of Lexel’s aux LED boards.

Hm… I wonder if Lexel sells LEDs to light the switch. I’ll have to check.

^ That is an awesome job. That is how the Emisar light should of came out of the box.

I tweaked Anduril to give me memorized level from lockout instead of momentary moonlight. Just for those time I need to pull it out and see something for a few seconds.

I pm’ed AEDe about a switch bezel(he had some nice ones for the H03) but didn’t get and answer back. I think I will have to give your mod a try.

I think with the washer bezel and the firmware tweak this could be a sweet EDC light.

I don’t have a D4s, but it looks like the switch is more recessed, anyone?
