[Review] Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 - Testing Output, Regulation & PWM for AA and 14500

My Tool AA V2.0 tailstands just fine as is.

If they had made the ‘ring around the tail switch’ solid, then some people would be griping & whining about that; saying it was to hard to access the tail switch. :person_facepalming:

It is a no win situation for a manufacturer, either way they go some people are not going to be happy. Soooo, they have to do the best they can to try and please everyone with one design.

I think with the Tool AA V2.0 they have accomplished this.

On tailstanding; I’ve found that my T10 and Archer will tailstand (but yes, wobbly) when “on” but not when “off”. The switch button seems to be a bit lower in the “on” position…

With the 2AA Archer, I took one of those thin black plastic protectors that go on the bottom of cheap tubing chair legs (a few cents for a pack of 4), cut out 90% of the closed end to barely cover the existing protrusions and slipped it onto the tailcap. It’s a perfect friction fit, not too tight or too loose. Now it tailstands like a champ, with unrestricted access to the switch.

I think the Tool AA is a great light too, but does it come apart easily enough to readily change that cool emitter? Somehow I just can’t understand a major manufacturer not striving for good neutral emitters (and a sub lumen moonlite) right out of the gate.

Interesting tailstand solution Tumbleweed48, thanks for sharing. :+1:

What would be your recommendation for a “good neutral emitter”? Just curious.

As for sub lumen, I know some like & want that; I am not one of those though. So I don’t miss that a bit.

Yeah, I’ve heard about that, but the boots on mine protrude no matter what, just worse when they’re off, because they seem to be bulged in the middle. Not the case with the Tool, the boot on it is perfectly flat.

Has anyone seriously whinged about that? I don’t remember anything being said about it in the older Convoy models’ threads and reviews.

Oh yeah, that has been a complaint before by some. I don’t remember any exact references to give links to because I paid it little attention. But I have read it several times in the past three years about various different lights.

Regarding the mod-ability of the Tool AA 2.0, I belive that the head assembly would come loose pretty easily with a good pair of thin snap ring pliers.

Unfortunately my own pliers have quite thick endpoints so they won’t fit into the driverboard’s holes.

EagTac D25A shows how to do it. Still no full circle, but almost. Along with a low profile switch this is the perfect solution to tail clicky candles. Anything less isn’t really working very well; They could as well have omitted the ring completely, having an all around accessible switch (like Armytek). I dislike compromises that doesn’t work well in either way.

@ Bilakos: Grind the plier ends into a point with a metal hand file. Worked for me :+1:

It will. If it’s too long, just add a circle of paperclip or metal wire in the tailcap end. The threads are quite long and it takes virtually any cell from factory.

My snap ring pliers seem to be coated / hardened, so a metal file will do minimal damage.
I would preferably use an angle grinder than start filing for 2 hours :stuck_out_tongue:

I added some wall beamshots and I also realized that the light diffuse glows in the dark :P

Just received my Lumintop Tool AA V2.0 from Amazon. First of all the tint is pure white. Second it is bright. Very bright just using an eneloop battery. It makes the V1.0 seem to have only moon modes. Very pleased with my purchase. Recommended.

/\… Glad it worked out 264. :+1:

Glad it worked out nicely for you  Definitely a great EDC!

Some people give one star because they think the price is too high.
Some give one star because delivery took too long.
Point being, many people don’t review the product itself.

You knew when you know what you bought.
That sounds bad so let me explain.
The light itself is good. Everything promised is in the package. The output and runtime are as advertised. It’s also really waterproof (I tested that in my bathtub). Build quality is good.

But yeah that doesn’t mean you will like it. You could for example hate the tint. Some people on Amazon rate the light because the light has exactly the tint they ordered, but simply don’t like the tint.

The AAA and AA version were my fist small and tiny lights. I like them and as for me that means a new search starts for a better replacement. Aspheric lens and high CRI for example.

Based on the good feedback, I just ordered one to add to my growing collection of 14500 lights. The smaller lights are impressive and just plain cool to me. Perfect for my use inside the house, in the garage, and will even do for the backyard, though I prefer my C8s for outside. With the new Vapcell 1000 mAh battery, run times should be good.

Just be aware that it doesn’t have LVP , I always use protected cells in the tool AA , I once ran down a 14500 to under 2 volts.

In my experience most of the 1 and some 2 star ratings are either don’t know how to use, or unrealistic expectations. There are a few outright failures, and if there are too many of those I move on.

Check out the Sofirn C01 in their Aliexpress store. AAA, Yugi high CRI, 60° beam angle for nice even beam, choice of 3400K/5200K emitters. And a sub $10 price.
