Yes, this is what I do with my battery tubes. Like KB said the head sling point is the one that can’t be indexed.

Interesting idea, although it would be a lot more complicated then it sounds to actually do it.

Plus Narsil does not support separate LED’s, so the best it would do is be a copy of the side switch LED in function.

I can ask about it though but I am guessing it would increase the price which is already going to be a possible issue.

Hhhmm. Think'n if we got a spare pin on this driver, I could add support for a 2nd AUX LED(s), but may be a bit involved.

Forget how the buck driver support works - if 2 pins, then maybe can't work.

5 available I/O pins:

  • switch
  • AUX LED
  • 2S required voltage divider input
  • 1 or 2 output channels (FET+1 is 2 pins)

Would there be any downsides if the GT4 came with Andúril instead of NarsilM 1.3, so the AUX-LEDs could be controlled somehow? I assume it's not only about the software but possibly also about more complicated hardware (more channels/pins to control auxiliary functions like with the ROT66 that first came with NarsilM and later on with Andúril?). I doubt that customers interest would be substantial if the AUX-LEDs were hardwired with the side switch only and only light up when it's in standby mode with no chance to deactivate it. Anyway, thanks for asking Lumintop what they think about it.

It uses an FET + 1 setup, much like the Q8 driver when it comes to pinout. The actual design has been beefed up a lot though.

I have been trying to get Anduril working for a few months actually. I wanted to use it in this light at first but sadly the thermal control is not stable it seems and allows the lights to runaway to 100c+. Since that is instant burn level it rules it out as a possible firmware for a production light until that can be fixed as you can understand.

Besides a few minor things that I think TK has been working on, I really like Anduril and would like to move to it. Although it also just controls the AUX led’s the same as the switch, there is no separate control that I have seen since they use the same pin.

Another issue would be actually mounting the LED’s in those locations, that would be easier then it sounds without an expensive setup under the reflector. Thats why all the Aux LED’s I see now are either under clear TIR optics or in setups that can have them mounted to the same mcpcb as the main LED’s. This is cheap and easy. Trying to mount them at a different height is much harder.

Alright, that makes sense and I totally underestimated what kind of effort it would cause to incorporate these little gadgets into the reflector housing plus wiring harness to the main LED-MCPCB. I just thought why not use this unutilized blank space on the front side for some cool add-ons. I have some more crazy ideas but they might be even more unrealistic:

  • paint the even front areas in matte black and add a raised bearing support for tritium vials
  • make those even front areas translucent (preferably frosted) and add aux LEDs in the inner housing close to the main LED MCPCB - the secondary (coloured) light would be bypassed around the reflector and become visible on the outer rim. For instance, you could have a nice red glow effect.

- Can you elaborate? What do you mean by bearing support? Adding tritium vials instead of LED’s to the front of the reflector would actually be a lot easier then adding LED’s since we would not have to worry about all the wiring hassles. Although it would add noticeable cost since those vials are not cheap last I checked ($5 each I think x 4 = $20 their cost, figure $30-40 added to the retail cost)

Okay...I was just teasing of course. We're talking about a budget light, not a godzillionaire's light. :-P

Sorry if I used the wrong expressions. My English today is some kind of.... I thought about something like an embossed area in the flat aluminum area. Inside this recessed area there would be cavity just as the size of the tritium vial, so you could push it into this cavity to keep it there.

Alternatively, there might be the chance to add trit support in the outer rim of the body in those recessed areas of the crenelated bezel...

Regarding the flat black treatment, always liked the look of the SupFire L1, and similar lights: https://www.aliexpress.com-Supfire-L1, though on the GT4 there isn't as much surface area to cover.

For trits, could probably use the bigger standard size ones. I wouldn't mind trit slots at all, even on the outside neat the front edge, maybe aligned vertically rather than horizontally, but again, the bigger size -- pricey of course to populate.

The issue would be cost, how much are vials now days? Last I checked they were still rather pricy.

The switch needs to be lit. I don’t like twisting big lights in the dark to find it. Really any lights, but the bigger the more awkward that can get.

Yes, the switch will be lit like the GT and GT70.

I really hope a ww variant is made, even if a limited run. I absolutely love my GT70 with the 3000k 70.2 I understand people like the light saber effect of throwers with the cw emitters, which I agree is pretty cool. But with floody lights ww is amazing.
