are there any maratac aa clones?

i am dreaming a owning a aa light less then 3 inches but the martac is over my budget

DQG Tiny AA is shorter than 3 inches. Made in stainless, brass, and titanium I believe. Stainless is the cheapest when you can find it in stock. DQG makes a Slim AA too, it’s a tail clicky, 14500 and 14250 options. It’s a nice light too. I have one in brass, it’s on my keychain with a 14250.

I bought I second hand Lumintop Tool AA. I and it feels just like my Maratac twisty from a few years ago.

Nice call, that would be good with the magnetic tail cap to shorten it as well. Don’t know how I missed that.

Thanks^. Mine didn’t come with the magnet tail. But I like it enough I am thinking about buying another tool.

My first Maratac had pwm on the lower modes. As far as I can tell there isn’t any on the Tool AA.

I would almost bet there the same light. Tool came with the same type of diffuser as the Maratac twisty had.

I know I have a few magnetic tail caps around there for those Tools. I will try to dig them up and shoot one your way. I have a 2.0 Tool. I didn’t notice any PWM on any mode by shaking it violently. I never see any PWM except for the slowest of them. I like the Ultratac A1 better than the Tool, although the mode spacing between med and high with a 14500 is ridiculous. It’s fine though because it doesn’t have that same problem on NiMh.

I will look for those tail caps tomorrow for ya. In the mean time I am still looking for a deep carry pocket clip for my Q8.

Thank you very much. How do you like the 4 speed of the Tool 2.0 ? Been playing with mine tonight, done 4 trips to the truck, and 30 minutes around the house.

The V1 is lacking a moonlight level, but I think I am enjoying not having to skip over it.
I am getting
With alkaline 8-48-100
old 14500 10-75-350

I like the spacing on the 14500 better then alkaline. Not enough jump from 48 to 100.

Edit, I will look through my clips and see if I have any that will fit the Q8

I like it well enough. I bought a bunch of them the few times they went on lightning deal on Amazon. The kids use them a lot and I have a few spread out into camping/fishing/hunting gear bags. Hard to beat them for the price really. Never had a bad one or anything go wrong with them. A little too cold white for my liking but it’s not a deal breaker really. I don’t carry them daily or anything. I normally don’t carry AA lights. When I do it’s usually a ZebraLight or a Jetbeam Jet-I. I have more AA lights than any other lights but I never really carry them. Lots of copper, brass, and stainless ones. More like flashlight jewelry than anything else. I use them around the house quite a bit though.

Right now. I have my Tool clipped into my stocking cap with the diffuser on using it as a head lamp. On low I can see everything in arms reach. I just went outside to let Roxy yellow some snow and I turned it on med. In a camping scenario I think this would pass for a light weight headlamp.

I am going to ask 264 what he thought of the tint, or why he didn’t like it.
I actually like the tint. But my eyes are getting old.

This is my first AA light in years. I too had a bunch at one time.

Yeah, like I said, the tint isn’t really a deal breaker. It’s better than walking around in the dark.

Never tried to get one apart to replace the emitter though. Guess I could try that if it ends up getting on my nerves. I will most likely leave it alone. The little Jetbeams are my favorite twisty AA. Put one of those Samsung LH351’s 5000K 90CRI in there. Really super nice. A friend gave me a few of those LED’s and it’s the first time I have used them or even had a light with one in it. Very nice. Think i will pick up some more of them.

I went and got my box of clips. Then I looked up the Q8. Ha Ha. :person_facepalming:
