The Astrolux A01 is on sale, and I think it wold be a good chhoice. Also maybe even better is a Lumintop EDC 01. I bought a couple for about $12 for 2.
Both lights are within your stated amount, ans so is the Lumintop Tool AAA.
Can anyone recommend an EDC 1*AA , high output 150-250LM, with a color temperature of 3000-4500K, possibly Hi-CRI, no low frequency PWM, quality flashlight in the $10-$25 range?
Thanks very much.
I would say Jaxman E3. I can’t remember if it has PWM, but ticks all the boxes if you chose the warm white Nichia. It has 3 modes and is a very robust flashlight!
BTW, the Convoy T2, even being a great light, has PWM in some modes!
EDIT: Jaxman E3 has PWM on middle mode (i put some pics here and Jaxman confirmed PWM on middle mode)
If only it wasn’t for the CCT, I’d say the Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 is a dead ringer. Maybe if you wait they’ll come up with a Nichia version like the Tool AAA.
Does anyone have a source of the needed 100k Ohm SMD resistors?
I’d only need four or five of them, maybe a dozen at most.
The sources I find sell them by the hundred.
I can’t remember how “hot” it gets because I used the driver to mod a flashlight for a friend of mine.
Still, using AA batteries won’t get it it too hot, I guess. If using 14500s (not advisable for that light) then it would get hot, but with AAs, not so much!
MascaratumB, Respected maukka did a review of Jaxman E2 on Nichia with the same output of 290 Lm and measured the heating of the flashlight: “The head gets to 65°C at 17 minutes and this is as hot as it gets. At this point the handle is at 59°C. Without cooling, the battery tube reaches 50°C at about 10 minutes. I consider this too hot to hold comfortably with bare hands.”
Therefore, I fear that E3 will also heat up very quickly.
I can only make the corpse of a flashlight. I am that dude from the old advertising of the TV-shop whose everything falls out of my hands
Hum, I don’t know it that will influence on the heat of the head/led, but the Jaxman E2 is an 18650 Li-Ion light, while the Jaxman E3 is an AA/NiMH light.
With an AA on several lights I have, they never got “that” hot, unless when I was using…Li-Ion cells.
I don’t have the means to test the temperature properly, but my guess is that the type of battery will surely influence the heat it produces.
So maukka’s test is appropriate to report those conditions: a Li-Ion battery with Nichia, not an AA with Nichia.
But please correct me if I’m saying/seeing this wrong :zipper_mouth_face:
MascaratumB There is a test of heating the old version of the Jaxman E3 at 200Lm, 40°C in 22 minutes. The difference between 200 Lm and 350 Lm is a 75% increase, which could significantly affect the heating. But of course this is all theory, only real tests can give an exact answer.
Thanks for the information Di_Joker, I was not aware of that increase in temperature! Always thought that not using Li-Ion cells would cause less heat, even after a long period of time.
Thanks for correcting me on this :+1:
All and all, I still see the E3 as a great light!!!
