FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

Dale your sig is just as big as teachers.

Not so chadvone, my signature is actually 7.21kb in size, 144 pixels by 83 pixels. TINY!

I found one answer my question, though imperfect.
It is possible to do this kind of stuff with aluminum anodization, even HA3. Not super-tough but maybe price-durability would better?. And with high-end base alloy (7068? 7034?) it should be very tough anyway, should look good much more than half year.

On a computer monitor they both take up exactly the same size though! Believe it or not!

Ok, it worked.

Bye

I have no idea the context you are using ā€œit gets a bit nippyā€ in.
But yes, I agree; there are many seemingly pointless things we see on BLFā€¦. but that extends far beyond sig lines.

Someone quoting endless quotes only to say ā€œ+1ā€ or ā€œI agree.ā€

Questions that are asked over & over & over & over & over & over because someone ā€œdoes not have timeā€ to keep up with a thread.

Pictures that are not properly sized down to at least 100% or less.

And back to sig linesā€¦ā€¦

Pictures in sig linesā€¦ā€¦ gifā€™s in sig linesā€¦ā€¦ etc., etc.

Signature lines in general in fact, no matter what they say.

But who is to say what is ā€œpointlessā€ā€¦. you, me, someone else???

What is ā€œpointlessā€ to you may not be to someone else. Same for any of us.

The majority of things in my sig line are quick links to things I find interesting, useful, or comical. That may be ā€œpointlessā€ to youā€¦ but not to me.

Personally, I find JasonWWā€™s sig line useful & appreciate it.

I am not so fragile that a sig line I find of no use upsets meā€¦. I simply scroll past itā€¦.

BUTā€¦ā€¦ I shall do my very best over the next couple days, when I have time; to streamline my horrid sig line to be more appealing to the eye. :+1:

Nopeā€¦. I am not going to remove the quick links I still currently find interesting, useful, or comicalā€¦ā€¦ But, as I said; I shall make a concerted effort to streamline & make more appealing to the eye my sig lineā€¦ā€¦ so hopefully it will not cause as much undue stress to some others as it apparently has been. . :person_facepalming:

All good points, thanks :+1:

+1 I agree

/\ ā€¦

I got used to extremely long and repetitive sigs but in some cases the sig to actual content ratio is almost 70/30 on a 5.8ā€ mobile screen.

Extra bandwidth consumption, valuable screen space taken, and yet hasnā€™t made me click the links more than once or twice, and I see them a coupe dozens times a day. Maybe not the most effective way to spread your word out there. I donā€™t make the rules but just something to think about.

I understand about small screens. I mostly use my mobile phone the last couple years. It has a 5.3 inch screen. I do use it in landscape orientation, not portrait.

The ratio you mentioned, as you noted; is entirely dependent upon how much ā€œcontentā€ is written. If you only write one line, your ratio doesnā€™t look to good either.

Personally, Iā€™m not trying to spread the word about anything by the majority of things in my sig line.

If I want to quickly see TKā€™s Cree LED Tint Chartā€¦.

I click LED Tint Chart in my Sig line.

If I want to see what post was Reported/Marked Rude, I click Rudeness Level in my sig line.

If I want to take a quick trip to Battery University to look up or read something, I click BatteryU in my sig line.

And so on and so forth.

I am not advertising anything I am selling in my Sig Line. BUT, apparently many are.
That is taking advantage of this platform IMOā€¦. but I do not make the rules. So I deal with it.

If sb wishes to do away with all sig lines completely that is fine & dandy with me.

If, as has been mentioned before in this thread; saving bandwidth consumption & valuable screen space is the goalā€¦ā€¦ removing sig lines entirely is a great ā€™first stepā€™ .

Followed up closely by mandatory picture sizing at 100% or lessā€¦ so as to fit on the page correctly.

And then either do away with the ā€œquoteā€ button completely or make it mandatory that only one post be quoted. No looooong string of quotes.

Those three things should go a long way in making BLF a more completely sterile enviroment that should not offendā€¦ should not offend to many that is.

Only thoughts, some suggestions, & things to ponder.
Not many of which I advocateā€¦. . :person_facepalming:

I looks at is as wasting vertical space as well, saves scrolling. We'd save 1 line by the admin removing the time stamp of "Joined", if he could. Do we really care what time of day someone joined in every post? Also if the "last seen" info could be abbreviated, another line could be saved.

I can't cut down on my sig line, because it doesn't exist, but a 1-5 line post doesn't need to take the vertical space of ~14 lines. My profile pic is wider than it is high which helps.

Take note all you square pics out there, and your 2 line locations

More good points by TomE if we want to go there.
Do away with everything except the username on the left hand side of a post. No avatar, no info, no nothingā€¦ā€¦ except username.

/\ ā€¦ Note in my post above, the content & the sig line (even on my 5.3ā€ mobile screen) did not take up as much space as the avatar & info on the left.

Just say'n. But though the teach has lots of html in the sig line, but vertically it makes no difference whatsoever because of the left margin stuff. If the admin can pick up 2 lines, and couple lines saved from a rectangular pic, space saved is good space.

I'd also combine the Online status with Send PM on one line - another line saved

I am quoting this exact line to show my wish NOT to do away with the quote button, for I sometimes wonder what is subject of the post, especially when someone posts in between unquoted posts while I am typing.

The ā€˜quoteā€™ feature really is appropriate when replying or referring to a specific, previous post.

Of course, any of these features can be abused by some ā€˜derangedā€™ person but they are actually very few and can be easily ā€˜spammedā€™ out if completely inappropriate.

ā€¦and btw, teacher, thanks of thinning your sig lines, for sometimes your sig lines are just way ā€˜thickerā€™ than your posts! :+1:

There is no need to go to extremes with some sensible suggestions that have been made. Passive aggressive defensiveā€¦

I think the user info is fine but could maybe be streamlined a little.

There is no need for 11-20 line signatures though, especially scrolling on mobile, maybe not so simple a task after allā€¦
Some people have arthritic joints in their hands, all adds up.

So if we are going to STERILIZE BLF, letā€™s do a complete STERILIZATION.

  • No Sig lines
  • Pictures must be sized 100% or less
  • Eliminate ā€œQuoteā€ button or limit to 1 post quoted
  • Eliminate all avatars
  • Eliminate all info on left side of post except username

Then we can have a nice ā€œcleanā€ forum that a few will just love, some wonā€™t care one way or the other probably, and the rest of us will think ā€œwhat a boring placeā€¦ :person_facepalming: ā€

Personally, Iā€™ll fall into that last category. But Iā€™ll deal with it if it will make a few happy.

But no half measures, all or nothing as far as I am concerned. Either let us just all deal with the things we donā€™t necessarily like or just Sterilize the whole thing.

Oh stoppit.

Passive agressive my rear end. This complete discussion in nothing more than BS. If you truly do not wish to see sig lines there are ways to avoid it completely. Take the initiativeā€¦. apply those simple measures instead of griping.

And donā€™t even go there about health issuesā€¦ā€¦ See above about avoiding sig lines.

Iā€™ll be back in in minute with a link to that.

EDIT:
Iā€™m back with the info of how to hide Sig linesā€¦ā€¦

This info is provided by jon_sliderā€¦ I think the original code/ info is TKā€™s creation.
