FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

More good points by TomE if we want to go there.
Do away with everything except the username on the left hand side of a post. No avatar, no info, no nothing…… except username.

/\ … Note in my post above, the content & the sig line (even on my 5.3” mobile screen) did not take up as much space as the avatar & info on the left.

Just say'n. But though the teach has lots of html in the sig line, but vertically it makes no difference whatsoever because of the left margin stuff. If the admin can pick up 2 lines, and couple lines saved from a rectangular pic, space saved is good space.

I'd also combine the Online status with Send PM on one line - another line saved

I am quoting this exact line to show my wish NOT to do away with the quote button, for I sometimes wonder what is subject of the post, especially when someone posts in between unquoted posts while I am typing.

The ‘quote’ feature really is appropriate when replying or referring to a specific, previous post.

Of course, any of these features can be abused by some ‘deranged’ person but they are actually very few and can be easily ‘spammed’ out if completely inappropriate.

…and btw, teacher, thanks of thinning your sig lines, for sometimes your sig lines are just way ‘thicker’ than your posts! :+1:

There is no need to go to extremes with some sensible suggestions that have been made. Passive aggressive defensive…

I think the user info is fine but could maybe be streamlined a little.

There is no need for 11-20 line signatures though, especially scrolling on mobile, maybe not so simple a task after all…
Some people have arthritic joints in their hands, all adds up.

So if we are going to STERILIZE BLF, let’s do a complete STERILIZATION.

  • No Sig lines
  • Pictures must be sized 100% or less
  • Eliminate “Quote” button or limit to 1 post quoted
  • Eliminate all avatars
  • Eliminate all info on left side of post except username

Then we can have a nice “clean” forum that a few will just love, some won’t care one way or the other probably, and the rest of us will think “what a boring place… :person_facepalming:

Personally, I’ll fall into that last category. But I’ll deal with it if it will make a few happy.

But no half measures, all or nothing as far as I am concerned. Either let us just all deal with the things we don’t necessarily like or just Sterilize the whole thing.

Oh stoppit.

Passive agressive my rear end. This complete discussion in nothing more than BS. If you truly do not wish to see sig lines there are ways to avoid it completely. Take the initiative…. apply those simple measures instead of griping.

And don’t even go there about health issues…… See above about avoiding sig lines.

I’ll be back in in minute with a link to that.

EDIT:
I’m back with the info of how to hide Sig lines……

This info is provided by jon_slider… I think the original code/ info is TK’s creation.

How to hide signatures, and ignore someone, BLF After Dark, CSS theme [not relevant anymore]

BLF After Dark, CSS theme [not relevant anymore] - #121 by jon_slider

Whatever.
I don’t mind sig lines, I have a three line sig.
My point is excessive sig lines.
That’s all I have to say about it.
Good day sir.

I can make a Sig line thread if someone says so.

Then all sig lines are transferred to that thread.

+1

Some sites have a character limit for the sig line and a limit to the maximum size of font that may be used, and maybe an image size limit. That way you can list whatever you want as long as it fits in the available space.

The user info in the sidebar may not seem to be needed but I do really like to have the users “last seen”, post count and location readily visible.

Signature lines are a nice personalization touch, but at the same time, I would like to see them small and not a substitute for personal bookmarks.

No need for that IMO, just some restraint used in selecting what to have in one’s signature.

Another + 1 !

Stop what. You offhanded accused me of using a “passive aggressive defense”. Well, I’ll just stop trying to sugar coat it then.

I think your complete complaint about “excessive sig lines” is nothing more than noise. Noise that could have just as well been kept to yourself.
There are ways to avoid sig lines. Use them.

+1 to “Whatever.”

You could have fooled me about you not minding sig lines.
Who defines “excessive”…. you??

What about the people who think a “three line” sig line, like yours; is excessive??

My point is many people complain about the most benign things.

Good day to you also sir.

I think good judgement defines excessive.
Stay cool teacher :+1:

I wrote some Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey code to remove some clutter for myself:

Tatasal… just to be clear, I do not advocate the removal of the “Quote” button. I also think it is very valuable. Yeah, it can be abused intentionally or more likely unintentionally…. but that is rare.

I was just using that as a way to save bandwidth since saving it was mentioned…… IF saving bandwidth was what any of this was really about in the first place, which I highly doubt.

Thanks, but no need for a ’Sig Thread’ either, as far as I am concerned.

@ kanton

That’s pretty neat. :+1:

So it deletes all sig lines & all the left hand info except username, avatar, & online status??

Does it do it for everyone?

Does the site ‘remember’ the code?? I guess I am trying to ask if this is something you only have to do once to get continuing results as you got.

Sorry, I do not know enough about coding to even ask a question intelligently. :person_facepalming: .
