If Money Was No Problem, Where Would You Choose To Live?

This forum simply does not “do” politics and/or religion as there is a history of topics sometimes becoming battlegrounds for differing ideology. The forum rules, do clearly state we should avoid divisive subjects. That was not followed… It is actually a pretty good policy. This forum is owned and moderated by one person, no team, no conspiracy. sb56637 is quite fair-minded. I have no connection to him, but do admire his even-handedness.

Anyway, to answer OP’s question.

I’d probably stay in the US, foolish as that might be given the direction we’re headed. We still seem to be the cleanest dirty shirt, so to speak — at least in pockets of the country.
I hate the cold, but the northern part of the country has better demographics. Yet, they also have the most tyranny. Sometimes, civilized is synonymous with gullibility and no balls, it seems.
The southern half of the country has better freedoms, and is more hospitable climate-wise… but the potential for bloody hostilities in a without rule of law scenario is greater here. A financial or economic crash would do it.

So it’s really hard to say. Wherever I decided, I’d want to be close (bike-riding distance) to a town of ~50k. I’d want some neighbors nearby for security (isolation is bad). I’d want to build partially underground for thermal efficiency. I’d want a nice solar set-up and a well. Lots of both pasture and trees. An edible orchard — fruits and nuts and such. A pond.

In sum, I’d want a great deal of self-sufficiency, but other options close at hand. A community, but comprised of people who aren’t violent, low IQ scumbags… but who are also not gullible simps and sheep.

So that pretty much rules out everywhere in the entire world.

Yeah, and the problem is that some people have, well, quite polarized opinions on political subjects, are not willing to be reasonable at all with others, and are not willing to listen to facts and prefer to ramble on.

Back on track now, I’d personally just stay where I live. I personally love Canada, and rather than escaping to a “better” place, I’d rather try and change the environment around me.

Hmmm To ABove.
I thought these threds were for like minded people of ALL casts and denominations. Regardless. To enjoy a common goal.
SOME. Apparently don’t know the meaning og “blending and enjoying.
Ah Well. Ce-La-VIS.

Abobe (ing).
When in breeding cycle. Pick where the best wages are for YOUR experiences. Regardless. You after the money for later. NOTHING else.
I travelled worldwide in construction. Started at 13 yrs. retired at 49 yrs.

Later. (depending on income. health etc. Pick the climate YOU like. We all different so impossible to advise. ME. I like the sea. and the Tropics.

Sticky skin and sweat running down bare chest is ideal. but not so hot now I’m “older” hey.
Lived on my yachts x 2 After Marriage and breeding cycle till late 50’s. Settled down in Queensland. Tropics. On coast. with Island views.
Summer temp’s ALL yr. Worked n Desert with True. 45 to 53Deg C. and on North Sea (UK) Trawlers as a youth in Minus 15/20.
plus a session on Alaska Pipeline in mid ’60’s for CJB at Minus— I don’t want to remember thank you. AFTER coming off a section in Sahara Desert over Atlas Mountains prior to. Cape Town to London to Kodiak.
That was an interesting transition. Believe me. A lot of us came out in Boils.

Heading off for a few weeks cruise on MED. In a week or so. Then Brother in Brantford, Ont. for some fishing in Canada and Alaska. Yumm.
Now 77yrs. and loving life.

Good to know.

But this policy is becoming ever-more oppressive, everywhere.
Yes, the battles do become tiresome because most people on all sides are just really ignorant, stupid…
It’s a small price to pay though, when the alternative is the loss of honest discussion in a true marketplace of ideas, where anyone who dare voice a controversial (but rational and logically-sound) viewpoint gets banned or ‘warned’.

The RULES…… State. No Politics. NO controversy.
Live together… Peacefully.

I’ll bite the balls off anybody that picks me. But.
Otherwise. Live peacefully. It’s easier.

WHERE’s the problem.
If a person Can NOT carry on a conversation. Discussion. Whatever.
with a peaceful demeanor.
Piss orft…… Not welcome. Simple.

I speak my mind in general. BUT never at another NAMED/Identified Individual.
(Normally)
In general, That’s usually fine.
Just DISCUSS… Whatever. On a General level. NO names or insinuations.
It’s usually fine.

Have fun all.

I’d probably find someplace in the Scottish wilderness.

I don’t think the policy is anything new for forums that have a narrow focus and a specific reason for being. I have been an admin on another forum, nothing to do with flashlights, for over 18 years. We have always had an off-topic area, but also have had specific rules against divise or controversial subjects unless it has a direct bearing on our forum focus. Even then we ask, we demand that civility is maintained. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

We are all here as guests of sb56637, much like anybody here would be a guest in my living room in my home. I don’t allow smoking in my home or yard. If someone can’t handle that they will have to decide to accept that or leave. It is the same principle here. Maybe not the best analogy but it is the best I can do off the top of my head.

Cheers!

One other thought on forums and their “restrictive” rules.

I believe many of us truly enjoy the ability to interact with others who share one of our passions, some would say our obsessions, without having the intrusion of strife that is irrelevant to the main topic of interest, flashlights, or whatever.

If I really want to discuss politics I will go to a city hall or county commission meeting. There’s one this coming Tuesday. :frowning: I am not totally blameless here. I once drifted off into “politicaland” during a period of personal distress and was nudged somewhat gently back into reality by one of the other members. I don’t think I ever proferred by thanks; but am now grateful to have had the error of my ways pointed out to me. So thank you.

Somewhere away from most, but not all; people. Everglades, Montana, maybe Alaska…… Or a combination of all three… depending on season.

…….

A big welcome to BLF Barry Lyndon!! :+1: . :+1:

I think you gonna fit right in here…

I don’t see being a gelding as a virtue.

The idle chatter of women and their tendency toward ‘not rocking the boat’, ‘going along to get along’, phony politeness and pleasant myths… should not supplant cold, hard, uncomfortable truths in any serious discussion forum.

This is how we got to where we are as a society — with certain ‘divisive’ subjects having been carefully ‘socially engineered’ to be considered taboo and off-limits… such that civilization itself has no defenses from the trends, people and agendas which will destroy it. Meanwhile the majority of people - cowardly and dumb as they are - say and do nothing — lest they come off as offensive or impolite or get called bigots or something. Heavens forbid they get banned! That would be the worst!

What’s civil to you — in other words, what’s not allowed to be discussed — might be considered ‘being indoctrinated’ (“He has the PC mind virus!”) to others , or even cowardice, or at worst, aiding and abetting the forces destroying us.

Anyway, decorum is fine and all. I’m in favor of it sometimes. I try to pass out some respect on an as-deserved basis. I don’t believe in being super-rude unnecessarily or majorly-offensive all the time. And yeah, it’s the owner’s site to do what he wants with it, whether he does right or wrong, whether justified or not. I only ask that he embrace free speech, at least in the ‘open topic’ side of the forum, with nothing off-limits except absurd spamming or things that would get the FBI knocking on his door.

I’m going to say what I want, when I want though. Ban me. IDGAF. Happens all the time.

(Also, dude, you don’t allow smoking in your yard? LMFAO).

Thanks. We’ll see how long I last. I don’t go out of my way to cause trouble, or start arguments or anything; but my views are definitely not popular. If they were popular, that means I’d probably be wrong.

Of the three places you listed, and in a worst-case scenario where you’re “basically on your own” (which is just how I judge places after years of reading doom websites and forums):

Everglades: more wild food, but lower quality food. Miami too close (crime central). Great weather except when you’re sweating at midnight trying to sleep. Mosquitoes.

Alaska/Montana: You’d be fighting the cold instead of people. Less food, but an elk or something would be a huge and long-lasting score.

Hard to say which would be more miserable.

I think this is the basic plan going forward though. My educated guess is that inside the shaded areas there will be ‘security’ and an economy. Outside, not.

Your welcome. And hopefully you’ll “last”. I find your views refreshing personally. Interesting theory about the map to… could very well be. Only time will tell.

Key wording for the three places I listed…… Seasons, time of year.

Everglades: Winter time. Not to hot or cold. FORGET Miami… do not even go close IMO. The West side of the Everglades 10,000 Island area on down to Lost Man’s River & on toward Flamingo. About the only people you will see out there are people of like mind. Oh yeah…. fishing is good too……‘reel’ good!

Montana and/or Alaska: Late Spring, Summer, Fall. Weather hopefully not too awful hot in summer…. if it is just go higher. Fishing is great & stay right on to hunt a bit before going back Southeast to winter in the Western Glades…

If a national SHF scenario were to develope while in one place or another…. just stay & deal with either the hot summer or freezing winter, depending on where you are. Either place you will be mostly with people of like mind going it together.

And remember, as Ole’ Hank Jr. sings…… A Country Boy Can Survive
And honestly…… there is a world of truth in that.

Nobody allowed to smoke INSIDE my fenceline.
My Property. MY Rools.

U no Likee. You No Comee. Simple.
Everybody has levels of rools to suit themselves.

Find others of similar disposition. There are LOTS of levels of discussions.

And in 46yrs In Aust. I’ve always said. the first day I see frost is the day I permanently move to Darwin. Not yet.

Excellent choice with Darwin, the broken jaw capital of the world!

Wow! I googled “broken jaw capital of the world” and Darwin was at the top of the results, many times over. One story also noted, ” the Northern Territory has the highest level of alcohol consumption in the world.”

Very interesting indeed……. :+1:

Australian city of Darwin named ’broken jaw capital of the world’

The north Australian city of Darwin has won the unenviable title of “broken jaw capital of the world”.

By Bonnie Malkin in Sydney
10:41AM GMT 07 Jan 2010

A doctor at the Royal Darwin Hospital said the emergency room dealt with 350 cases of broken jaws and noses each year.

“(This) puts us at about 17 per 10,000 population, which is well above anywhere else in the world,” Dr Mahiban Thomas told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Dr Thomas said the shockingly high rate of broken bones could be attributed to alcohol-related violence in Darwin.

“Only 12 per cent of the trauma patients have not been a victim of an alcohol-related assault,” he said.

Most of the assaults that lead to hospital admission take place outside Darwin’s busy pubs and nightclubs on Thursday and Friday nights.

Darwin has long had a reputation for alcohol abuse and violent crime, and the situation appears to be getting worse.

There were more than 6,000 assaults in the Territory last year, up 18 per cent on 2007 figures.

A report released last year also revealed that the Northern Territory has the highest level of alcohol consumption in the world.

Residents of the territory drink 15 litres of pure alcohol each annually, which is three times the global average, the Menzies School of Health report found.

Only the Irish and Czechs come close to matching Territorians at the bar, both consuming 13 litres each year.

Lots of crocodile dundee wannabees in Darwin .... I used to live there.

How long were you there?? Are you a member of the ’Darwin Broken Jaw Club’??
