Deterrence....presence....Q8

Even confronting criminals without guns is a dangerous proposition as people can and are killed by knives, clubs, fists, etc. Better to stay in your home (armed if possible) and let the police handle the situation.

I once heard scratching on my second floor baloney door. I pulled the drapes partly aside with a 9mm in hand and was confronted by 2 masked desperadoes! Lucky for those raccoons I didn’t want blood and guts all over my deck

Look at those teeth! I knew there was a reason to stay away from those little round-poopers!

SIG, I had that happen too. They were in my kitchen eating cat food, and my super bright flashlight didn’t faze them at all. Neither did the red dot on one of their cute little faces. I decided to let them eventually just leave, instead of having a big clean up job.

I agree with this statement 100%. Always try to make your house the least desirable as possible to be broken into. The more light, the less desirable.

Raccoons have taken over in San Francisco :frowning: . Sure wish we could do something about them but too many people here are opposed to any control on, in my opinion, out-of-control wild life.

We have a rabbit problem. One evening, I came home around two and was way past surprised to see about a dozen rabbits scurrying around a 500 ft drive.

The city wont do a damn thing about them because, and I quote “the poor wabbits have a right to be there as much as humans.” Chances are that if you start to kill them and some snitch neighbor reports you, the cops will come to arrest and charge you for cruelty to animals. I kid you not.

If there was ever a thread that has gone off into the wilderness, this is it! LOL

Up north from the city, here in Sonoma County, we have plenty of raccoons lately, and even more possums. Animal control won’t do anything. You’re not even allowed to live trap and relocate them. You can live trap them, then you’re supposed to fix or change anything that might attract them back, and release them in the same place. Guess how well that works.

You can try to make life as safe as possible, but you can’t hide from it.

Thread drift is a time honored tradition

It’s the same in San Francisco…harm a single hair on a raccoon and it’s probably 10 years in San Quentin prison. As I told my kids when they were going up people never mind using up other people’s time and money or imposing their views on others.

All that copy past quote, why?

That too is a time honored BLF tradition. :+1: .

Wow…. it sounds like more than the wildlife is out of control SIGShooter… :open_mouth: :person_facepalming:

I’m guessing that does not work at all cabfrank, just an exercise in futility. :person_facepalming:

Wellp, even here in NYC I’ve seen raccoons, possums, and even a coupla skunks (including a white skunk!). Me, I don’t mind in the slightest.

Generally, the raccoons don’t go ripping up garbage-bags and making a mess because we stick bags in trashcans for collection. About the worst they’ll do is eat the catfood I leave for the outside cats which keep those nasty-ass mice in check.

And possums are tick-magnets, so ticks latch onto them like stink on a monkey, and provide the possums with a nice food supply as they pick ’em off like grapes and eat ’em. So your cats, dogs, etc., will likely not have any ticks attached. Plus, possums have a rather low senescence, rarely living beyond 2yrs, maybe 3. So I feel bad for ’em. If they want to eat the catfood I leave for the felines, hey, have at it. They ain’t long for this world anyway.

I imagine if I were hip-deep in ’em I might feel differently, but they generally ain’t pains in the ass or anything.

Sometimes it’s hard to know what to keep or not for that sake of coherency. What works for one doesn’t for another. One shoe doesn’t fit all, etc

OP, I clearly understood your side of Q8 being extremely useful BTW, I own 2 of them.

BUT. My posting exposes reality about situation with ” trigger happy ” cops shooting and killing innocent bystanders. See the MANY examples beyond the ones I cited both in news casts, internet, etc….

These ” rogue ” cops shot ” first ” . Then ” think ” later. By then it TOO LATE. Innocent people dead. I’ll give one real good example here : female cop entered the WRONG appartment. NOT hers BUT neighbor from above. Shot him DEAD. Then claims burglar and SELF DEFENSE. Total BS. She was in WRONG. Tried to cover up by claiming ” FEARING ” for her life. She ” SHOT ” first being trigger happy. The story was on news for a few days. Both Nationally and Locally. BTW, the guy was Afro American brother.

Moral of story, you were lucky you were not killed. You must live in some small city or town man. Such actions in a big city WILL get you KILLED by trigger happy cops. NO DOUBT.

Strangely enough, I kinda got “swatted” not too long ago. I’m on the front stoop feeding one of the cats, just got home maybe 5min before. A PD SUV comes roaring up with lights flashing. I don’t pay it any mind, as the house across the street and down a ways sometimes has domestics, y’know? Next thing I know, the cat looks up and goes running off, and 2 unis come up to the stoop and ask, “Is everything all-right, sir?”.

“Uhhh, yeah, why wouldn’t it be?”

“We got a report of a loud violent argument, possible firearms involved(!!), and blah blah blah.”

“Uhhh, no, everything’s quiet here, no problems.”

One of the unis asks about XXX, mum’s name (which ain’t quite Mary Smith, so someone had to know it fully to send ’em this way). “Hey, she’s fine, was just in the kitchen cooking eggs or something.”

“Mind if we check in on her?”

“Hey, go crazy…”

So they check, she’s in disbelief wondering what nut calls in something like that.

So lessee, NYPD, domestic disturbance, “possible firearms involved”, adrenaline a-pumping… yeah, that can end well…

And about an hour later, I look outside to see if the cat came back and finished his meal, and there’s a bus from the nearby hospital parked where the copcar was. Of course…

Sure enough, a coupla minutes later, bell rings, knock on the window, I open the door with, “Sorry guys, hoax 911 call. PD was just here an hour or so ago.”

“Soooo, no children in the house needing medical attention?”

“Nope.”

“Are there any children in the house at all?”

“Not for 40something years.”

They got a chuckle out of that, I invited them in for coffee but no takers, and they took it in stride.

I was expecting FD to come by later that night, but nope, thankfully didn’t happen.

So yeah, no matter what the situation where PD’s involved, be verrrrrrry careful, don’t go for any wallet, flashlight, anything, certainly nothing black and/or shiny. Can’t go hit rewind if anything goes wrong. “Oops”, and you’re dead.

Not sure of the game laws where you are. In my state rabbits are considered a game animal. Hence hunting them is okay as long as they are in season and the amount of rabbits you harvest is within limits. Then depending on where you are in the state you have to abide by municipal laws when it comes to firearm discharge. Some areas allow bow hunting in residential areas if it is a certain distance away from a dwelling. Other places don’t allow any projectile hunting. Some places allow traps to be use and most rural counties, like I live in, are open to just about any type of hunting as long as you follow Department of Conservation rules.

If you find a way to help mitigate your rabbit problem just know that rabbits are delicious.

Nahh Son, catch them b arse wabbits and dump them in your snitch neighbors yard.

I use to hunt rabbits with a…22-250. Got bored of killing chucks at 500 yards and the rounds were expensive soooo…rabbit stew it was. Most of them were headless….lol

That was way back and my mother had no problem skinning and serving rabbit. My wife……I don’t think I have enough money to bribe her to cook the rabbit, never mind skinning it. I’ll have to wait for a zombie apocalypse for her to change……

As for now, I’m in the suburbs and I don’t think the pest laws apply. I bet the local courts wont even try to convict under any pest laws, simply charge with cruelty to animals. We are talking about cement cave dwellers, also know as apartment dwellers who are not right in the head when it comes to animals and eating them. Grocery store rabbits are fine, killing them to eat is….wabbit murder.

That’s funny right there. Thanks for the laugh. I needed that.
