New Sofirn SP36 charges to 4.25 volts

Got my new SP36 in the mail yesterday, came home and inserted 3 brand new 30Q batteries in it and let it charge. Took about 6 hours before the button turned green. Pulled the batteries and they all metered at 4.25. The same dmm reads all 18650’s from my other chargers as topping out at 4.18 to 4.20, so I know the SP36 is exceeding my normal charge level. For the sake of longer cell life, I think I’ll charge my batteries for this light in the conventional manner. The usb-c charging capability wasn’t a big factor in my purchasing this light anyway and I’m very happy with the massive beam. It definitely turns night into day. Didn’t think of taking my Q8 out and playing with them side by side. Maybe tonight.

4.20 V would have been nice but as I understand from HKJ’s remarks, 4.25 V is not much to worry about apart from somewhat reduced cell life.

Checking my SP36 will not be a good comparison because it was a prototype with clearly some unplanned extra components soldered to the driver.

I like my SP36 too

Glad to know it’s not critical, thanks. I guess I will use the internal charger if I really need to and have no alternative.
