Fireflies E07 preview

Can someone say if this vapcell battery is good for this light? or is the samsung 40t the best ?

or what about this efest, will it fit even ?

since i dont have any 21700 batteries i would order from nkon so thanks in advance for what is the best for this light.

Why not buy the real thing? They have the Samsung 40T in stock.

The 30T and 40T are the real thing - nothing beats them. Test results in post #1506 here.

Out of stock  so i take it the 40t are ideal for this light then and fits ok ?

Darn, sorry about that. Thought it said in stock when I posted it, but yes the 40T is what many are using. Vapcell and Efest don’t manufacture batteries, they rewrap several manufacturer’s brands with their own shrink wrap. This Vapcell Nkon sells is actually a Samsung 40T. https://eu.nkon.nl/rechargeable/21700-20700-size/vapcell-inr21700-4000mah-30a.html

Vapcell has been doing that with a few cells - rewrap known good brand/models, but they seem to add a couple dollars, for the wrapping I guess... But there's seem to be more readily available, typically. Good example is the VTC5D Vaocell rewrap.

I used to use a LOT of Efest cells, when people said it was a rewrapped this or a rewrapped that, I compared them. Removed wrappers and ran output tests. The Efest cells were never the same physical build as the supposed cell it “wrapped” and always performed better. Still have a lot of Efests, of all sizes, but after 6 years some of them are dying off now. I’ve run em through their course I suppose. As an example, the Efest 20700 can do 23.4A while the Sanyo 20700A does 24.5A and the iJoy 21700 makes 20.4A. Even a LiitoKala Black 26650 falls below these however, making “only” 19.5A by itself.

I find the 30T to be the best performing cell of all that I’ve tested. With over 300 cells here, I’ve ran quite a few different cells through the wringer. No 26650 or 32650 or any other cell can outdo the 30T in my experience. I’ve tested them in lights, found the 30T capable of 30.3A on a single cell running a flashlight, literally powering up 17 emitters to 16,000+ lumens. Surprisingly the Samsung 25S is the second best cell I’ve tested, capable of 28A from a single cell in a light, with the Gold Golisi 26650 hot on it’s heels at 27A. Other 21700’s and 20700’s I’ve tested run far below these, at 24A or so.

Has anyone actually compared the fake 40T from Fireflies to a real one for output? I mean, my fake 40T (Efest?) seems to be doing pretty good and my E07 is quite a bit brighter with it than my Rot66.

Sorry, didn't get a fake but there's a few other 4000 mAh 21700's I tested and they do pretty good but not as good as the 40T or 30T. Hard to compare the E07 and ROT66 because the carrier on the ROT66 probably adds resistance, though I haven't tested it, then you have to compare apples to apples with the LED's and optics of course.

Dale - I agree the EFEST are good cells, you do pay a premium for them usually, but can't complain bout the quality whether they are a rewrap or not. Sometimes wonder if they mod or change the batt+ end with a better conductive material, or mounted better. The discharge curves act as a signature of the cell, and the EFEST discharge curves, I thought, did match or come close to branded cells, or close enough. Maybe there are grades or binning involved with cells and the EFEST are from the higher grade binning - think someone mentioned this binning here on BLF.

I seemed to totally miss the gold Golisi 26650 4300 mAh. Compared to the Shockli 5500, it certainly beats the Shockli at high amps thru the entire discharge, but at lower amps, it only beats it in the beginning, which is fine too. Seems expensive -- I'm trying to find the best price, hoping without it being a fake

Thanks Tom. My E07 is bright enough with the cell that Fireflies sent me that I'm not motivated enough yet to get a real 40T unless I see some substantial difference in user tests.

It's the old debate of initial bling brightness vs. slightly less, longer runtime because of less draw, cooler running. The other questions on the fake though is:

  • safety - how safe is a no name fake?
  • capacity - is it really 4000 mAh or close?
  • reliability/quality - yea it's bright now, but how does it do in 2 years, after 10 or 100 cycles, if they faked the name, then we really don't know much about the integrity of this cell

Hopefully they simply wanted to save a couple bucks and used a decent, though less performing cell, but we really don't know.

ok, i like efest,i been using them in my convoy l6 for almost a year and never any issues so i asume the 21700 are just as good.

It's the one thing that has been bugging me since the beginning. I was the first to say the cells don't look like real 40T's and then more posts came from everyone confirming they aren't real. I know it's Chinese New Year but Jack at Fireflies has been completely mute on the fakes he sold us. I agree that he was probably not aware of it himself until I emailed him the first time, but that was way before their new year. All I asked was if they are safe and no response, which means he probably doesn't even know himself. I'd feel a little better if at least the cells could identified to be from a reputable manufacturer. Jack is around as he responds instantly to praise but that's about it.

Anyway, made a decision today to drop both fake 40T's off at the recycle bin and call it a day. Just ordered some real 40T's at the 18650batterystore for peace of mind.

Ok, whew. I did the first swap of the XPL HI 5000k into my grey E07 for my work light. Discovered super fine layer of thermal past on both lights. Be ware of smoothing back flatter with a file. You can remove a lot of copper doing this. I will just use sanding paper on a flat surface on the nichia light. My solder gun tip bumped a aux light wire and melted a hole through the liner, so I had to patch with heat shrink. Omg this was some tedious microscopic work! I ended up breaking out a headlamp and magnifying glass to complete. It all seems well and working :+1:
The nichia back before beveling edges. I’ll do this later. I stressed out enough for one day, but the work light is ready for duty tomorrow:)

So I got a refund from BG. I am thinking of buying another E07 but want to be sure that the teething problems in the manufacturing process have been resolved and that the remaining old stock has gone. What is the consensus on whether this has happened, and what was the most problem free version? I suspect I should wait at least three more months but wanted to see if anyone with more knowledge than me knows if a better E07 is out there. I know that the bare aluminium version has manufacturing improvements but have also seen problems still being reported.

do u mean the problems with no thermal paste ?

Yes

okok… is there any presence from the makers of this light here ?

Sadly FireFlies has not been on BLF in a month and, if I searched right, no posts here at all and last updated the OP on Dec 21st, so...

that is really not the news i wanted to read Tom E :frowning: so its abandoned or what?
