Red Sandalwool Damascus Side Lock Knife $8.99 - is it any good?

Looks like it's on AliExpress at a higher price:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Folding-Knife-Damascus-Blade-red-wood-handle-outdoor-Camping-knives-Tactical-Hunting-Survival-Knives-EDC-Multi/32922383742.html

I wonder how many layers it is or if it's just Damascus etching.

Does this mean a liner lock? None of the photos make it visible.

Well I ordered one, for that price I’ll take the chance, just give it away if it’s not so good lol!

If it does indeed end up looking like the pictures I think it’ll be OK. Thanks for the heads up & Code on this one GOOSE. :+1: . I got a couple… at that price I figured why not.

Just be aware this is a smaller knife, having a 2.36 inch blade. Which is fine with me, I like shorter blades too. It reminds me of a “gentlemans” type knife.

Looking forward to getting it.

Oh yeah it is a linerock, I finally made it out in a zoomed picture.
.

Of course it’s just el cheapo noname chinese “damascus” pattern etching
It may looks nice, but nothing more than that.

No problem Teacher, hopefully they will be ok. I’m not holding my breath on them actually being Damascus…… but hey I’m not going to lose any sleep if it’s not as they are still pretty cheap either way.
They actually look pretty good too - to the eye I mean.

Exactly GOOSE, I won’t loose any sleep either.
And when we actually get them it should be easy enough to tell if it is actually some type real Damascus or just a printed on design. :+1:

Those timber handle scales tend to be “slippy when wet”.

With a couple I’ve had over the yrs.
I’ve wiped with Acetone. then wiped clear Sikaflex Marine over them.
Smoothed most off so it’s just a light film.
When you get it right (a few practice runs on a bit of sanded timber first.
You get a very slightly tacky surface. with a 100% better grip.
I’ve done it on Stainless Divers knives too.
The secret is “very” finely… the lesserer the betterer.

That Damascus. Look at blade end as it blends into tang. and the cutting edge.
If it decorative you’ll see.

Hey Goose, has your knife shipped yet?? Mine has not.
As I write this they say there are 16 left.
I also noticed the ship time is listed as CN-099:Ship between: Mar 29 - Mar 30
_
EDIT: Hmmm, after I wrote the above yesterday; my two show as shipped now (1 day later)… with Tracking number too. Maybe my ‘theory’ is not correct. I should know better than to try & figure out buying & shipping from China. :person_facepalming: .

It seems in these ‘Flash Sales’ they must be pre-selling what they do not actually have in stock.

I bought two of THESE also in a ‘Flash Sale’ & ship time is listed as CN-099:Ship between: Mar 07 - Mar 09. There are 218 of these left as I write this…. it says.

Anyway, I was just curious if yours had shipped. I’m guessing they have not.
And I wanted to share that it appears they are pre-selling on these Flash Sales.
_
EDIT: Maybe not, mine shipped ‘last nite’; complete with Tracking number.

I am just gonna let the orders ride cause the knives are a good deal.
But I found it interesting how it appears they are doing things.

I have a couple more knives I bought during a Flash Sale that are the same way too. Shipping date is sometime in March.

Yeah mine has shipped, with another tracking number for Netherlands post which doesn’t work as yet, if ever…

Mine has just arrived, either it is a REALLY good fake, or its real Damascus. I have a real one, and this looks identical to me. Lovely little knife.

Thanks for the update GOOSE! That sounds good. Mine should be here in a few days & I’m looking forward to th arrival.
Great pictures too by the way!! :+1:

@ GOOSE …… The code still works, I just ordered some for gifts. My next years Christmas shopping is almost done.

EDIT: 15 March 1742hrs / $8.99 Code no longer works. But ‘Flash Sale’ price is $9.36 . :+1:

Congrats!
Thanks for following up. I agree it is real damascus.

the code has expired, but the knife is on Flash sale for under $10

I hope yours all come soon, with the recent info leak sadly I will not be using Gearbest ever again.

Yeah… I’m looking forward to getting them.

As far as the leak thing, I’m still trying to figure out how serious it was/is. I always use PayPal & half of the info I provided is not real.

So…. I’ll probably keep using them until I find out it is really bad or something bad happens. :person_facepalming: … Then I’ll wish I had been more pro-active.

thanks for the heads up
I just asked them to delete my account

:open_mouth: …. I’m not the ‘sharpest pencil in the box’ when it comes to the ‘breach’ stuff…. even after reading the links provided. :person_facepalming:

In ‘dumbed down’ language, how bad is this??

Thanks in advance…. :+1:

Well, from what I’ve read, it’s like this - somehow through the ‘app’ they have found a way in to Gearbests whole customer base - they can see and change anything they want - even order stuff f you have a credit card saved. They can also see what you have ordered. Most people tend to use Paypal, which is safer in my opinion as it requires ‘offsite’ verification, which cards usually don’t. of course if they somehow have your Paypal password you’re screwed, so wouldn’t be a bad idea changing that too.
Anyway, getting back to trying to make it simples lol - apparently Gearbest has happily ignored this for a while now, denying all knowledge so as people learn of it, they go on and change their passwords - of course the hackers can sit there and see all this, then resell your new info with new password. Does that make sense to you (not the best at describing this, sorry)
To be clear, they are not hacking your account to get the passwords - they already have it and if you change it they can get the new one too. that applies to all their customers.
Hopefully you can see the severity of it now and why it’s riled me to post so much.
It would shock you how unaware people in general are about security online - with a good percentage using the same password everywhere - which turns out to be their name backwards etc etc etc, you get my drift.
