It’s pretty obvious it’s using a Luxeon V.

It’s the only other Lumileds emitter that could do this on DD without being a Luxeon MZ.

Still, I’m quite interested in the light. Please send in the code freeme.

What are differences in tints below. Please advise.

Luminus SST40 CW
Philips Luxeon NW
XP-L HI CW
XP-L HI NW

If not DD, I am interested in the SST40 version.

Interested, can you give a description of how is the lumens and throw for each LED type?

I know XPL-Hi is throwy, and should be something like 1000-1300 lumens (basing from other flashlights using XPL-Hi)
Luminus SST40 is a mixed flood/throw LED (probably similar to XHP50.2), with around 2000-2200 lumens (basing from other flashlights with this LED).

I’m not familiar with the Philips Luxeon LED — how is the lumens and the throw compared to the XPL-Hi and SST40?

Shouldn’t SST-40 be the same as XML2 die-size-wise?

The Amutorch Ali store indicates these specs:

Looks like the Philips Luxeon has similar stated lumens as the SST40 of 2200 lumens.

*“pure purple base plate” = I think it’s from Chinese-to-English translation inaccuracy and probabably means “pure copper base plate”

Not really. As already stated, SST-40 has XM-L2-like die size so it’s much throwier than XHP50.2,
Luxeon V is floodier.

Are you sure the Luxeon V is floodier than the SST-40?

The Luxeon V has a smaller footprint (4040) .

The Luxeon V is similar to an XP-L HD. The die size and the dome are more important in determining flood/throw than the ‘footprint’ or package size (3535, 4040, 5050)

Luxeon is flip chip and flip chips are flooders usually.
But this time that’s not the case, I was wrong and stock they offer practically the same cd/lm.

Note that SST-40 can be dedomed with great throw improvements. With Luxeon V the improvements are marginal.

Thanks Agro for looking into it.

So, we should expect similar basic characteristics with the sst-40 and luxeon V. (Lummens and throw)

And both leds are ‘rumored’ to have minimal tint shift.

So I’m guessing the biggest difference (apart of-course from the tint) will be Amperage draw in direct drive.

Do you know which led has a smaller Internal Resistance?

Hard to tell. You may see in the Luxeon V thread that I linked to that 2 samples from different sources that Koef3 checked had very different Vf.

Is there a code for the pre-order already? Interested to try the Philips Luxeon V model…
