I’m sure many of you have at least a few AAA lights in your collection. What are your favorites? Show ’em!
The Fenix L0D is my oldest, as you can see from the anodizing loss. It’s a great little light, very reliable, my “old faithful.” But my new favorite is the Aurora A8… not an AAA light, but nearly in the size class. Because of the polycarbonate shell, I won’t let it ride on my keychain, but I clip it to pockets. But for AAA use, I’m feeling the Jetbeam U will take precedence. It’s seriously powerful for its size and well built, and an enormous value at only $10 USD! The copper Olight i3e-CU is a beauty, but only 1 mode. I tried to get on with the Astrolux A01 copper, but it’s really too heavy for the size. More of a novelty. The Sofirn C01 is a recent acquisition and is very nice (I have the 5600k emitter in there), but I got it more for backup purposes.
I only have 2 aaa lights. An A01 that has a Meth problem. It can’t decide which mode it likes best. I have no say so in it. A BLF348 rounds out my aaa lights and I don’t even get to use that one. The wife stole it. So I have a tweaking Astrolux and a kidnapped 348.
Left to right, Maratac copper, Lumintop Brass worm, Manker E02, Manker E01, Thrunite Ti-3, Sofirn C01 Cool White, Sofirn C01 Warm White, Harbor Freigth (3-AAA), Mini Maglite (2-AAA)
The Maratac was in my pocket the longest, the Thrunite got the most use (3 weeks on the JMT), I have not really used the mini maglite, my E01 is a bit wonky in skipping modes, but has arguably the nicest tint of them all, and was my first AAA of the group. They all have seen pocket time except the two larger ones. They don’t get much lovin anymore since I fell in love with my Emissar D4.
I learned the lesson with the Thrunite Ti5… when I wanted to buy the Ti5 it was not produced and sold anymore… (missed it by 4 weeks, huge regrets, luckily I got one a few months later)
Same with the Thrunite T10S/T10T… wanted a Ti version… discontinued… happy I bought the aluminium T10 version as backup at least when they released the T10V2… felt like an idiot first for buying a light I won’t carry right away, but a few days later I was happy I did it. There’s nothing quite like these on the market anymore.
I bought 4 Sofirn C01 yesterday for the same reason… :person_facepalming:
as an excuse… I got family, so I expect they will “borrow” my lights and use and lose them, so I better have multiples of the nice ones.
