Is Vinz still around???
I currently have 3 Vinz drop-ins and I’m looking to upgrade. I cannot seem to get in to contact with him.
If Vinz is not around anymore, what would compare?
At work I currently carry 2 Oveready modded Surefire 6P hosts with Vinz drop-in’s.
On my duty belt I carry more of a ‘flood’ pattern and in a cargo pocket I carry a ‘thrower’
My department recently issued Pelican 7600’s to everyone and they are making my current Vinz lights look a bit weak. So, I need to upgrade my drop-ins!
What would you guys recommend???
I’m not quite up on all the new stuff, but I guess this is what I’m looking for…
- 1 drop-in that is more flood, a real workhorse. Then another that is a pure thrower.
- Compatible with my Overready bored out 6P bodies
- Ran on an 18650
- High (1500+?), Medium (250-500?), Low (50?) lumens of nice white light (no yellow)
No mode memory, but a fast mode reset (.3sec)
That’s the gyst of what I have right now, but I don’t think mine are anywhere near 1000 lumens. The color temp may be throwing me off though. I’d just really like to blow these Pelican 7600’s out of the water.
I buy the copper Surefire quad/triple pills oversize from member kiriba-ru and machined the 6P/9P C2 for the 18650 and leave a step at the head for a battery stop, in case I want to weapon mount it. I hand fit to a press fit the quad shell, can’t stand copper wrapping. Made delrin dowels up that are hollow in the middle and seat on the rim of the copper pill to press it back out if needed and it is needed during fitting. I use the Mtn, FETDD guppydrv 3 18awg leads. It’s got a Tactical mode/program that locks that mode you choose in, I highly suggest it.
I build the Z59 switch with a KAN9 250v 10amp Fwd switch Blue spring 18awg bypass.
The latest one I built made 4500+ lumens.
I have made a few of them… the 9P’s are 3S Triples running 3x18350’s making just over 4000lm. All hand fit with press fit copper pills. Even my home made 3P Triple…
Drop-ins are generally loose-fitting, unless you wrap them with Cu/Al foil and then wedge them into the light to give them better heat-transfer to the case. That’s always been the biggest weakness of drop-ins.
An integrated shelf means what the LED is mounted on is part of the flashlight body itself, no “seams” to hinder heat-transfer. A drop in would just kinda flop around with minimal contact to the body unless the rather huge air-gap would be filled.
Vinz is not around anymore and to be honest - there is nothing compareable. Vinhnguyen’s lights are not on the same level, but that is not a suprise when you consider how many he mods/makes.
Is there anyone else you guys may recommend? Overreadg? Vinh/Skylumen? Sportac?
I honestly do not care THAT MUCH what the drop in looks like outside of the body (although, I greatly appreciate VINZ’s works of art). I just want high performance that I can trust!
Of course there is…https://www.pflexpro.com/category-s/1855.htm Randy Brogden is also a BLF member, I have a few of his dropin’s when he started out on E-Bay, 6-7 years ago, their bomb proof, check him out. If you send your light to him, he will copper wrap it, like no one else can. :+1:
Dave from CustomLites had made thousands of drop-ins for members, he did me a shock proof weapon P60 last year, and a red XPG2, been using him for 10, years.
