Any Formula 1 fans?

Here we go again, or at least we will be going again this coming weekend. Saturday evening here in the US, Sunday afternoon in Melbourne! We like to watch in real time so bedtime will be extended a little. Other than MRsDNF and myself, have we any F1 fans here this year?

My son started an F1 party thing a number of years ago, where we eat food and drink beer, wine, or whatever beverage of the sponsoring country. I’m thinking of barbequed snags (sausages) on a slice of bread, some Tim Tams (chocolate covered biscuit or cookie). I found some Coopers Original Pale Ale here. No idea what it is like as I have resisted temptation so far.

Any other fans? Other suggestions for authentic Aussie food?

Cheers!!!

Race is tomorrow?
I love the Mercedes and Ferrari battles but I would like to see the other teams be more competitive. Red Bull stands a good chance to run well this year but the others seem to have fallen behind. Don’t get me wrong last year was great. Ferrari battled 3/4 of the season and Red Bull snuck a win in. I just want to see 4 teams battling for a win instead of 2.

…the coming weekend… 5 days from today, almost to the hour.

I am both a fan of Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel. I do wish Williams was more competitive; I miss the days when Nigel Mansell and Williams were the hot ticket.

Second post (Ford Prefect) said looking forward to the race tomorrow. Thought I missed something.
I’ve really only kept up with F1 for 2 or 3 years now. Started watching it when Moto GP was taken from my cable network. Can’t remember the channel. Really miss those races. Just watch highlights now.

That’s what happens when I dig up an old topic…. dates/days get confused. Sorry ’bout that.

MotoGP was on BeinSports on Dish. It disappeared after last season from my channel lineup. I will see if I can find a alternative viewing option without having to pay an arm and a leg.

FWIW, ESPN’s airing of the F1 races was rubbish last year. Commercials in the middle of great passes and battles. Hope they get their stuff together this year.

What I wouldn’t give to see Rubens Barrichello race F1 again. Oh well, it’s a young mans game now. Wish poor Alonzo would have had a decent car.

Oh well, now I recall when I was in college, I still vividly remember my framed poster of the 6-wheeled Tyrrell P34 which started to race in the 1976 season, proved to be very competitive and other teams made their own versions of it until Formula 1 ruled only a total of 4 wheels are allowed.

In fact, Scheckter and Depailler finished first and second in the Swedish Grand Prix!

Certainly a F1 fan, can’t wait for the season to start.

I have tickets for the race in spa this year.

Have you bought a combined ticket (one day ticket incl. transport)? Or do you go by car and even have a bit of extra time to spend. In the latter case I suggest you visit the Museum of the Circuit, located at (the cellars of) the Abbey of Stavelot.

I am going by car, thnx for the tip!

I miss the days of screaming loud V10’s and V8’s. Have a little harder time getting into these hybrid electric hi-tech cars. Hopefully F1 is not headed in the Formula E direction.

What I miss is Fernando Alonso in the F1.

Specially with a car capable of fighting for wins and championships.

Let me give you a complete summary of all positive properties of mr. Alonso. He’s an excellent driver.

Who is the greatest driver from the recent era? 2000 until today?

Obviously… Taking into account the results… The numbers… Should be Schumi…

Charlie Waiting… RIP

Do you mean Charlie Whiting? Can’t believe he is gone….not many original legends around F1 left anymore….

Yes. Very sad.

Now lets see if F1 changes in any way

Another F1 fan over here…

Australia tests: Mercedes is back!

Count me in.
Dedicated Kubica fan. Unfortunately, a huge talent with little luck. I wish Kubica was given a chance in a competitive car. Now he says he knows the aim, but there’s nobody to race against. (All other cars are in different league)

I might watch a race if I see on on the telly, but not a fan. F1 seems to all about regulations, tire management and strategy rather than pure driving. I know it’s those very things that make it interesting for many, but me, I’m too dumb for that stuff, I just like speed so I’m much more into WRC. Those guys are just crazy heading into blind corners at those speeds based purely on what the co-driver is saying.
