Continuing site problems, March 2019

I have been suffering problems reading and posting on the site for the last few days, resulting in error messages detailing a variety of database errors and out-of memory exceptions.

The site also running slowly, often timing-out my browser.

Although sbd posted at http://budgetlightforum.blogspot.com yesterday that he had finished an unexpected maintenance activity, the problems still persist for me.

Just posting this (if I can), to alert admin to ongoing problems, and enquire whether others are also seeing the same symptoms.

So far so good on this side! I’m using Chrome on a Mac, and sometimes Chrome on Android! Have nothing to register so far

I’m using Firefox on XP (yes). Very occasionally I have a time out of my browser. Then I close Firefox and log in again. Every evening when I wrap things up, I run CCleaner. I don’t know if this helps me browsing the web, but it sure shortens the running down time.

No issues here.

BLF has been working fine for me the last few days.

Unfortunately still ongoing today.

I have further cleaned and checked my well specced machine.

VPN and AV disabled.

Nevertheless I continue to these sort of server-side errors, at least 4 times out of five. Once it happens, forget trying again for a few hours.

Making reading and posting almost unmanageable. Posting particularly.

UK based.

Thanks for your feedback.

$hit happens, as the saying goes. :D Sometimes I am amazed that all this modern day internet stuff works at all at the speeds we have become used to. Remember how it was back in the days when we used dial-up on a PC with CPU's like the 8088 that ran at about 5 to 8 MHz? Now even the $35 RaspberryPi runs at GHz speeds.

Wow! The RPi has more processing power than the $1500 IBM we bought in '81. Both with no hard drive.

No issues here from tablet, phone or desktop. All using Chrome.

TT, what browser are you using?

If you are using chrome, are you using the latest?

BTW people…there is something going on with Chrome desktop. Google said it was “mandatory” to get the newest version. Which is not the usual language.

No issues here using Firefox and Windows 10

No issues using Firefox 66.0 (64 bit), Mac.

Pasting chunks of such error messages into Google often turns up disussion of them with clues to where they originate.

leads to among others this:

And someone did ask about a similar error here last time the site was being fixed:

You have deleted your browser cache?

I should have previously mentioned (before I took a mental trip down memory lane) there was a period earlier today when the BLF site could not be reached from here in NM. However, whatever the cause, that problem cleared up and once again all is fine. Hardware/software a mix of:a PC running Win10 and a Chrome browser, an RPi running Raspian and a Chromium browser and two Android phones running Chrome browsers.

Just bought a π 0W for 5bux t’other day. Even has wifi built in, and is the size of a ketchup packet (got pix).

Anyhoo, only had a 5min hiccough where no one was answering.

Hi Tom Tom (and everyone else), my apologies for the slow reply. I’m currently traveling with very poor internet access, so I’m only handling urgent site issues. I’m looking through the system logs to see if I can figure out why that’s happening.

Tom Tom weird im here daily almost more or less and i dont experiene any site issues or problems ? im using firefox if it matters…

Tom Tom,

Not had any issues here, been on every day, on multiple devices.

UK based.
Firefox, Win10 (usually have NordVPN on set to UK).
Chrome, Android, tablet & Phone.

I’ve never had any problems regarding BLF speed, unless at peak times between 5:30 and 6:45 PM EST.

No issues for me. Normally on android using Brave n Chrome

No issues here on Firefox. But the lack of SSL may become a problem in the future.

i am online 18 hours a day - 7 days a week and check BLF often in that timeframe

NEVER had issues (besides the real downtimes)

It would be a good idea to enable HTTPS, but SSL is deprecated. TLS 1.2 should be used at a minimum.

Let’s Encrypt! makes it very easy and free to obtain a certificate which is trusted by all major platforms.
