What blade did you EDC today?

TwoSun TS25

Erausis.

There will ALWAYS be “copies” on just about all things.
the ways of the human being.
Same as there will ALWAYS be buyers of such.
The better quality versions and the cheaper ones.

People like myself. IE Old farts and on Pension.
NO more financial income as such.
Can.This way. Appreciate the finer things in life.
At OUR price ranges.

The market covers itself from both ends.
and as long as such are identified as Clones/Copies.
It’s NOT really such a bad thing Really.
There’ll always be both ends of any market.
Just appreciate the level you at I reckon.

I used to have Winchester 101 Pigeon Grade O/U. and Rem 870 shottie’s
with multiple custom Rifles.
Nowadays. A BRNO .22 bolt. Still does the job. Just.

Fakes are hardly the ‘finer things’. There are plenty of original designs that are well made at every price point.

Some people have ethics, while others have excuses.

NOT Ethics. more practicality’s.

There ARE some very well made knives around under $30.

A fair few people use them for working with.
While keeping the “named” ones in a box???
So they wouldn’t scratch it or wear blade out.
Could never understand that myself.
I used to use my Pigeon Grade for bunny shooting. (and foxes)
Just to use it. Also the 30-06.
You can hit running rabbits/Hares. You can hit any moving target.

The guy driving the car goes to jail with the bank robber.

The buyer of the stolen design is complacent to the crime. The designer has a retirement plan to ya know… if one does not set themselves up to afford the finer things in life then the appreciation thereof is simply unobtainable. It is what it is.

Wow, after reading all of these moralising whinning & preaching it feels like being on Bladeforums and that’s not a compliment!
What will the next step be? Not being allowed to say any negatives about the products of the paying sponsors of the forum?

Anyway back to the topic, I’m EDCing this Ganzo G729 on this pleasent Sunday afternoon just because it makes me glad! :sunglasses:

Hmmm… let’s see:

  • Benchmade Axis Lock
  • Spyderco hole
  • Firebird made it

What did I miss?
I am not that familiar with Spyderco but is that blade ’inspired’ by a Spyderco or an old Benchmade design ??

Call it a ’BencErco-Fire’ ??

 ….
.
Good looking knife btw….

Might as well throw my 2 cents in concerning copies, clones, fakes, & such.

’My standards’ for purchasing Chinese Knives: . (ymmv)

  • 1. If a Chinese company falsely uses the name or trademark of another company on their knife, box, &/or paperwork it is a complete fake & thievery.
Not a “clone” or “copy”… just a fake.
Personally I would never knowingly buy one of these.
  • 2. A 100% exact copy of a known design, but not using the Original Companies name.
I personally am not going to knowingly buy one of these either.
But, that being said…. I am fairly familiar with all things Benchmade so recognizing a BM copy is not gonna be a huge problem. However, I am not that familiar with most other folders by different companies. And I am not going to do massive research to try & determine if something I like may be a copy.
  • 3. Knives ‘inspired’ by other designs but not copies.
I have no problem buying any of these. If you get right down to it most knives are inspired in some way by other knives.
  • 4. Original designs.
I feel the same as rcwiily , I have no problem buying them at all.

Isti.

Nice knife.
I’ve got a G 733 in mail (this week. Maybe)
(I prefer the 733 blade shape ??.)

So. I have.
a Genuine. Original. VERSION.of a Ganzo Firebird folding knife.
to sit alongside my Genuine version of a Y-Start JYN02
D2 blade.

How lucky am I.
ALL these genuine versions of themselves.
Regardless of cost.

If a knife Feels well. cuts well, is of decent materials.
and it ain’t bothering the owners and buyers of any others.
Where’s the problem.

OK what’s next?. Please NOT clone torches.

One thing to mention….the copyright on the axis lock is up. So as far as I can tell, it is now free to use by anyone.

@ Macka17

You need to get the Genuine. Original. VERSION of THIS GoComma!!

The fit n’ finish of this knife is comparable to ANY knife I own, and I own more than a few!

The only thing lacking on this knife is the pocket clip. It is a bit wonky but with a couple of strategically placed bends it works pretty good.

It is advertised as D2 steel. I have not verified that, but I have verified it has great edge holding properties. It is hollow ground blade.

In different sales I have paid from $8.99 to $10.99 for this knife. They were $9.26 yesterday & were $11.99 when I just checked.

Yeah… to any doubters, I know full well it is a Chinese knife & that it sells for super cheap. But that does not change what I have written about it. It is the best deal on a decent knife I have ever run across.

And if you want a good light duty ‘gentlemens knife’, THIS NO-NAME seems to be a “Genuine. Original. VERSION” also.

.
Fit n’ finish is excellent. Blade is San Mai damascus. A very neat little pocket knife. Highly recommended too… by me.

That is correct DBSS. :+1: … IIRC It expired in 2007.

Also, I ’think’ I remember the Spyderco ‘Hole’ is part of their Trade Mark… so it never expires. “Think” is the key word in that statement however…

I do know that many years ago Benchmade made a few folders that used the Hole and they paid Spyderco royalties for the privilege. :+1:

Thank you for that one. I totally forgot I wanted one of those. Off to Ebay.

I also ordered one of those GoComma flippers based on your feedback. I hope it will arrive soon.

I remember the big drama when Benchmade released the original version of the Skirmish. That was a very serious dispute over the number of holes, their sizes and the order of them. :person_facepalming:
I really liked the look of the 1st version. It’s interesting how the added 4th hole changed the overall look of that knife.

I’m grateful that none of the automobile makers patented the wheel. I would hate to drive a car with oval or rectangular wheels…

You must be quick because they’re getting rare. My camo version can be considered as a “limited edition”, “special edition” or “limited run” now using the vocabulary of the prestigious manufacturers for charging extra 50 bucks.

Thank you! This Firebird version also comes with skeletonized steel liners so it weights even less than the 1st version.

Be careful mentioning the Ganzo G733 here! One of the fanboys might attack you in a rant just for owning a Stretch like design with an axis-lock! :person_facepalming:

This is exactly the way I fell about it, not just with the Chinese knives.

Fixed that for you.

Isti.

“”Be careful mentioning the Ganzo G733 here! Wink.

just for owning a Stretch like design with an axis-lock!“”

===

The reason I bought that one was I wanted to try the different blade “shape”.
I’m still not sure?.
Plus I’d have that axis- lock on all my knives given a choice.

NO folder can be 100% trusted in real hard work.
THAT is done if you have any sense, by a solid fixed blade.
I prefer my Martiini, then an axe or Machete for next size up.
Have you ever seen ankles and wrists/back of hands
when folders have “folded” or slipped off job.
I carry my folder. Martiini. Axe, and chain saw in back of ute.
in that order.
I’m not one who wants to say, “I did this…. with my folder”
I’d rather say my chain saw did a lovely neat job on that wood hey.

They all have their place. don’t push it. Only “you” will suffer.
(Not you personally, you in general).
Have fun.

Teacher.

Unfortunately I have 4 x 3ish inch blades now. 1 x VG110. 2 x D2
and a Chinese 440C.
With smaller and longer around them.

I’m trying to find that Go Comma 2 +mm blade in Orange with better steel than the 3
grade. It’s too soft.
They are a nice looking toy though.
I got a little SRM 6029 LUC with orange plates and 8cr/440c? steel.
Take off clip it a nice key knife (5.5mm blade. 13mm open. Liner lock.)

It’ll take a lot of doing to find a better key blade than my old SOG Micro2
though, but I’m trying.
Waiting for a 6040 in mail to check that out.

You want a coupla. I’m getting inundated with those “I’ll never buy any of those stupid little things”. Yea.
Gotta unload b4 missus sees them.

Like I have said already… if they are the same quality as the first one I got I do not think you will be disappointed.
And I am counting heavily on them being the same quality…. I ordered 17 more. They are all in shipment now…… so fingers crossed.

Your right… that ‘extra hole’ in the Skirmish made it look totally different.

Best I recall the original Grip & Mini Grip had the Spyderco Hole in the blade for opening. BM paid Spyderco royalties for using that ‘Hole’.
Then BM went to the Oval hole on the Grips…. I actually liked that better. I also liked/like the Mini Grip much better than the Grip. In fact I did not like the Grip at all. It was too big & just felt awkward to me. The Mini Grip on the other hand was just perfect in every way… to me.

There were a couple other BM models that used the Spyderco Hole too & BM paid royalties. I can’t remember atm which models they were though.

I agree completely about the automobile makers too….
