Could anyone give a quick reason why they prefer one over the other?
The years fly by, tinypic was new and I needed something and they were good enough then. Before them it was that nameless site that killed so many forum posts across the web.
Tinypic is clunky and I’d love to use something else but I hate signing up for anything else cuz it’s just more spam. I figure you all have a preference because you post pics and don’t have any trouble with either of the above. Are both of them mobile friendly?
@bansuri
You don’t need an account to use imgur app in your smartphone. And yes, imgur is quite mobile friendly. The only drawback is when the app ask a few times to sign in for post, but you can skip it.
I use ImgBB. Haven’t had any problems. Easy to use. No photo editing or anything but I make all my pics 800x600 before uploading them. I only use it to post pics here. You don’t even need to be signed in to upload images. I just upload my pic, copy the code, and paste it in my post.
This is an unpopular opinion here, but I’m an Android user, and I just use google photos. Yeah, google is evil, but so is imgur.com. Google does score fairly high on the “not likely to disappear any time soon” scale.
I agree with google and imgur being evil. But the lesser evil may be imgur, ’cause google just like to kill services without warning, so I’m not so sure about the “not likely to disappear soon” factor. So far google has killed 12 apps, 137 services and 12 hardware device projects. Some of them with reasonable explanations but others just because they want and can. Just check the Google graveyard is kinda funny .
To me, any big ad driven service with millions of users will be fine to use, but what is profitable for imgur (or any other images hosting service), maybe it is not for google.
Because it cost money for space to host the photos. SB keeps this site up and running by himself, for free. Besides the very basic rules of the forum, us as users hosting our images elsewhere helps keep his cost down.
Nice collection. Dubious hosting service
There is a lot of internet drama around postimage.cc and postimage.org, not sure if is wise to use any of them.
I see you went with Postimage.org. They’re a good site, in my experience. I switched to them when Photobucket made that tragic mistake of suddenly forcing everyone onto the paid model and breaking all the links/embedding.
There was just one moment when Postimage.org had a bit of a scandal, in that the “.org” TLD wouldn’t work for image linking any more. They had to switch to “.cc”. That broke a lot of images. It was a major pain… but they eventually got it all worked out. That was over a year ago. It has been working great ever since and should continue to do so.
What’s great about PostImage.org is that it’s very easy to use, and light weight. Fast uploads. There’s also some great post upload link assistance. You can get links fashioned in a variety of ways, such as with thumbnails. Yes, they automatically create a thumbnail version of each image. That helps reduce bandwidth consumption when providing many images in a post.
Imgur.com is good, but more suited to social media. The interface has gotten better. They also have nice integration with Reddit. I also use this for image hosting, but mostly when posting on Reddit.
Whoa, that flashlight collection.
What in God’s name… so many massive throwers. Do you work in search & rescue?
Very clever on the stacking. Some of those look like single unit flashlights that take a dozen batteries.
