UPSs are my friend. My computer, printer, router, modem, monitor, etc. are all backed up. I've finished downloads with the power off before shutting down. The surge protection is nice, too.
It’s not just a matter of surge protection or gentle shutdowns… it’s that old hardware, when allowed to stop, sometimes never starts again. Even a planned power cycle is a risk for computers which are otherwise running all the time.
Even without risk though, it’s still disruptive to reboot when one has several hundred programs running. So I don’t like power outages. A UPS would at least help with short outages though, much like how a notebook doesn’t need to shut down unless power is out for quite a while.
My PL47 is flawless (including the button/rubber cover) and fits every cell I’ve tried in it, I certainly won’t be buying another one of their lights after seeing the horror stories here and on r/flashlight though.
I’m buying a flashlight, not a decoration. Functionality and build quality matter far more than cosmetic concerns when it’s going to spend most of its time in my pocket and only come out when it’s dark.
This is mostly in reference to consternation in the FW3A thread over changes to the light’s appearance, though I’ve seen people turn down recommendations for otherwise perfect lights in other discussions because they don’t like the aesthetics.
Heck of a statement to revive this thread with. And I agree, I really care more about practicality than looks, and if they match in a model, so be it. The arguments over the new Convoy knurling’s looks made me want to pull some three clumps of hair out.
I admit, I would probably never use it on the road. But on the paved trails I commute on (pitch black at night), it is awesome. Great throw for riding fast, and spill for spotting critters. I still don’t love its UI, but after a few rides with it, I want another one.
I would say the Zanflare F6s.
It sticks to everything is not supposed to.
Is a whistle that can’t whistle.
Weights a ton and a 1/2 in the neck.
The chain turns black the next day.
Even in the keychain is heavy.
It’s supposed to be 200 lumens out of a cheap 70 mAh 10180.
And I ended up with two of ’em.
Zanflare anyone?. Cheap.
a) PFlexPro is closed because they have a big order and don’t give a damn about the retail biz.
b) Malkoff is a parts supplier turned manufacturer. Very expensive. More than Surefire.
c) Elzetta is more expensive than Surefire too.
d) HDS makes the ugliest flashlights there are. WAY more expensive than Surefire.
I just bought a Surefire Fury Tactical (1500 real lumens) for 139.95.
Is that expensive?.
