A follow-up on the NiMh vs Alkaline thing, just as an example Olight rates a longer runtime for NiMh on the i3E. Very interested in the test outcome now, lol.
According to Wuben, runtime on LOW (1 lm) on NiMH is only 25 hours, which in itself seems unusually short. For comparison, Utorch UT01, which also claims 1 lm on low, will run 3 times as long.
The Wuben is a good little light, I own it. However The gap between high and Turbo is too big! I like my Lumintop EDC05 a little better. Also own the Lumintop Tool AA v2 and like it a lot. Another great light that I own several is the NICRON N7. Great little light with decent throw. I also bought a $5 Zebra light headband. Now I have a great headlamp!! Out of all my 14500 lights the Wuben is my least Favorite. Thats why I only own 1 and own several of the others.
I also heard of switch problems with the EDC05 but i tend to be leaning more towards that light, mainly because of the adjustable levels and the 800 lumen output.
That’s a little over double what Wuben claims for the NiMh. I guess the question now is - how much energy was left in the cell ( see post # 16). If not too late can you report what charge was put back?
I NEVER worry about run times on any torch.
Small ones I carry spare in pocket.
Large ones I usually have enuff power in multiple battery setup to last the normal times I’m using it for.
Personally I’m quite happy with Astrolux AO1.
BCF 348, OLight I3T EOS Copper the same.
10440/AAA cells.
Jetbeam Jet-1 MK. Up to 14450 and AA.
Plus a coupla others in AA \14450
ALL cheap and basic. ALL work well.
With not one having a problem yet with regular usage.
Sorry, I didn’t even think to do that. I have it running on Med now. It’s well over 8 hours so far and still going. Not sure for how much longer. As I type this it’s starting to flicker a bit. I imagine LVP will be kicking in pretty soon.
Yeah, I’d say so. I was quite impressed with the Low level runtime. It was plenty of light to light up a room when it’s pitch black. Even with small diffuser on there it gave just enough light to be able to see the whole room.
Nice test and thanks for your time in doing this. I been running the 14500 and haven’t had any issues with run time, but it’s good to know about the MUCH better than advertised time on NiMh for when I might use those.
