I would like aluminium as well. My intended build won’t be high output and I don’t want to have to worry about galvanic corrosion between copper and aluminium.
My order arrived nice and safe over the weekend. It gets installed today, but I already opened it and the retaining ring threads into the pill like butter.
If anyone's wondering, it was packaged nicely and took 20 days to reach the continental US, with tracked shipping. As expected, and I'm quite pleased.
Mag D sets are sold out, but I still have 3 empty drop-ins.
If nobody is interested in custom pill for bigger pcb or custom optics or etc., I will make same 16mm pills as were provided with my sets and sell them as is.
S21A should fit triple optics, not quad.
S11 is great out from the box. If you want custom leds and driver, youd probably move from ugly XHP tint to 4 smaller but more pretty leds. So you need spacer. If I went with my regular quad design (Cu spacer+brass liner ring), this would cause too many parts that have to be put under stock pill (also youd probably use 17mm driver so extra adapter was necessary). I think full height aluminium quad pill with 17mm driver place is good consensus, not so heavy, not so expensive, not tricky for build, better thermal transfert, no need in extra adapters. Also full height pill design is easy both for upgrade and downgrade - this is not common for S2+ (smaller size+similar drivers) but should be cool feature of S11. Just have two sets - stock pill with reflector and quad pill with optics. And change between them when you need.
I’m in need for a 18650 quad host and was wondering if the Sofirn SF36 would not make a better host than the Convoy M2 since the SF36 with XP-L HD is regularly on sale with a reduction, actually US $16.95.
If not, I will go for the M2 spacer, 3 or 4 units (in aluminum).
One M2 kit (copper spacer) available.
I have build SF36 quad once. But sofirn is not convoy, they used to change flashlight dimensions occasionally. I need to find my drawings and measurement and compare them with hosts that are sold nowadays. Hope some thread subscribers could help with measurements.
