Clemence, can I still modify my order (not payed yet)? I signed for E21A 3000K complete built. I would like also 5000K JetuE21A R9080 [Kit only: US$4/pc]. $44 in total.
noob question:
is there low voltage protection on the driver for the jet-u? or is it not needed since it’s just alkaline or nimh AAA batteries that will be used in them?
It’s safer since the boost driver requires certain voltage to work. AFAIK it’s approximately 0,7V. So when your battery reached 0,7V the light is simply turned off automatically. As for leaking primary batteries, at only 230ma, there’s less danger to leak Alkaline primaries. But long storing could still leak them. I suggest not to use anything else other than rechargeable NiMh.
230mA to the LED, downstream of the boost circuit., but significantly more at the tailcap. Per your tests, where a 750mAh Eneloop was drained in just under an hour, the current draw from the battery is somewhere around 750mA.
My recommendation is to charge when the light will no longer go into high. That will almost certainly still be above 0.9V resting, which is a minimum voltage that has been recommended by some sources for NiMH
Thanks for the correction, yes that was 230mA to the LED. I measured about 1A at 1,2V in the battery side. More current with stock XPG2 (higher voltage)
