Sofirn SP70 Alone $50, PM for AMZ US CODE(LIMITED)

[quote=teacher]

Looks like the teacher has schooled me. Very well. I will just change the emmiter to the tint I like the most.

I didn’t “school you”, I just figured you had missed DB Customs post.

No harm meant or taken. I just kinda look at it as, that’s just what a lot of us do. Like the Q8, people just upgraded a few things to get a little more output so I assumed someone had already started working on ” upgrading ” so to speak. I took the tail switch out of my L6 and put in the SP70 and got another 150 lux on my meter. It has BlueSwordM’s springs with a bypass on it, but I switched it back. Just wanted to see the difference. Which visually you would never be able to see. Just numbers at this point.

/\:+1: .

Yep, there's some room for improvements. My previous posts (post #1951) documented a gain with spring bypass's, plus you could swap the driver for a 30 mm one which we have for replacing the L6 stock driver, etc. Also if you stay with the stock driver, could swap the FET with an Infineon for example. You should get some boosts.

As Dale said though, it's a pretty good "BLF" caliber light to begin with, great for non-modders to get a mod level light, or can be additionally tweaked by modders, just like we did with the Q8's for example.

I'm thinking/guessing it's about a 5700K LED - wish I could test for that. I have spare P2 5700K's, but I'd prefer a 4000K myself, so think I'll order them from Arrow since the P2 4000K's are so cheap.

A note for batteries: In my area, the local Batteries Plus Bulbs chain does tack welding of cells. While they can't attach two lithium cells together, they can add "nipples" (aka button-tops) to a flat-top cell in this style, given they have a nipple that fits and all that. Since I can't find the button-top Shockli 5500mAh anymore (I got two from Mtn for my L6, but now he has flat-tops), I'm going to get flat-tops and have this done for $0.50/batt.

Solder blob'n is soooo easy, and only needed on one of the cells, plus lower resistance than typical button tops. I did a few cells the other day, no problems. Just say'n...

The N4 is even cheaper at around $6.50 each. I bought several a couple months back. Output may be down slightly from the P2 but I’m not sure it will be extremely noticeable.

I wasn’t saying the SP70 shouldn’t be modded, if that’s your thing then by all means, mod away. I was merely reminding some of the interested parties that it doesn’t need it. Modders know what can be done, part of the fun is finding out where the gains are, if there are any. Chop it, swap emitter style completely, Cerakote it… :stuck_out_tongue:

In my L6, I actually rotate the cells, as the top cell sees a fair bit more heat ;) So I would want two cells button-top'd

Got mine…cant wait to get home…

Mine is at the Post Office to be delivered tomorrow (Wed)

cool. package sent to Jason will arrive soon too.

pictures and video of SP70 sharing is welcome!

Guess it’s time to talk about a BLF version. maybe: retaining ring, smooth reflector, different tint, no switch tail cap, Anduril firmware?

Retaining ring? By all means, YES!!! Please stop using glue! :-D

SMO reflector? Oh yeah...isn't that what we ever wanted from the very beginning? ;-) Maybe there's a chance to test a bit about the correct alignment of the LED on the z-axis? If you put the XHP70.2 less deep into the reflector aperture you might loose a bit of lumens but you will probably avoid the ugly tint shift "fried egg" effect as the blue light coming out sideways of the LED will not hit the reflector surface.

Different tint? That's for sure. I guess many of us would prefer a warmer tint between 4.000K and 5.000K, someting like 3D (4.885K) would be just fine to me.

No switch tail cap and Andúril? As Andúril will not (yet) work with tactical tailswitch lights it might be a nice option to offer it as side-switch only or maybe to put enough efforts in it to adapt Andúril fully working with both switches.

+1 :+1:

We need a BLF edition for sure. As much as I want a SP70, I would rather wait to purchase a BLF edition.

I have 2 of the current SP70’s, guess I will have to buy another “BLF Version”. I’m sure there will be plenty of time to save for it.

Well, if they make the SMO reflector available as a separate buy, then I'm good to go with the original. Anduril requires a driver change - that may be a major issue. Like I said before, they appear to have a superior design to our conventional FET+7135's, but they use a PIC controller and not an ATMEL ATTiny, so not sure what it would take to get Anduril (or NarsilM) ported - might be something like DEL's buck driver support we did for the GT, not sure, should be do-able though I would think.

Great light so far, check my vid out.

Mine is now ordered from Amazon US with a code (thank you Sofirn). As mentioned previously in the thread, PM Sofirn to get a code.

For the BLF Special, my preference would be for NarsilM/Anduril with the rear switch, serving as a lockout switch. My L6 has rear-switch lockout as well, though with D4 firmware.

Can’t wait to get mine and post pics. I am tempted to get a BLF edition, but I just overdosed on throwers, lol.
