New WildTrail (former LuckSun) BLF-D80v2 Sale is open.

4000k and 5000k.

I would like to see 5D/5A 4000k.

I would go away from Cree to Samsung LED LH351D

I like the LH351D a lot. But for a thrower like the D80 the XP-L-Hi seems the better option.
And correct me if i am wrong but could it be a problem running only one LH351D on a FET driver with big good springs. . . ?
It is a comercial sold light. So a burned out led would be a problem.

The D80 is more of a general purpose light than it is a thrower, even with the HI it’s not really a thrower. The LH351D should handle any cell that the light can accept, even with bypasses on the springs.

I like the beam profile an XM-L2 gives in the D80 reflector so that will likely be my choice, if I find I have another SBT-70 I may well use it here…

The LH351D is one tough LED.

Not as tough as the XP-L2, but better than the XP-L HI.

I wasn’t around for the original BLF-D80 development, but over the years it has been mentioned and recommended quite a few times in other unrelated threads. Now that this updated version is in the works, I definitely need at least one.

Like many others, I prefer 4000K-5000K Hi CRI.

I talked to LuckySun and they looked into the LH351D. Untill now they did not find a source (that can deliver the needed quantitys / within a reasonble price).
And they are still waiting for the new batch of reflectors. The first batch they tested did not deliver the desired beam.
But they are testing out the driver. For now i have not heard anything bad about it. And i did not expect problems from this side (maybe that they think it is to expensive in comparsion to the drivers they used to use). But with a strong comunity behind it, they can see the advantages of it.

Mine now rocks an SST40 and a BLF FET driver.
8A and 2170 lumens.
It would be a good upgrade of the original design IMO.
The beam is really neat, the hotspot is the same as with the original XM-L2, but with double the lumens !

^ what he said

This is not a thrower anyway, so why bother with XP-L HI or other small die LED ?
Go fat or go home !
(an XHP50.2 3V would get a 3000+ lumens but then it will be a true hotrod, not really reliable IMO)

It may not be a “thrower” but it is definitely more of a throwy edc than a floody edc, which is a very nice option in a world of triples and quads. I think the SST-40 setup sounds great, since the xhp is too hot.

The SST-40 can get plenty hot as well.

almost 10000 stock

above 250 pieces like 1.28$ per LED not good enough? way cheaper than XPL HI

Woudn’t the more throwy Cree be better than the Samsung in this light?

The reflector works beautifully with the large XM-L2 emitter, since the Samsung SST-40 is the same size as the XM-L2 the reflector should have very much the same profile but the 40 can handle a lot more power and produce well over 2000 lumens on the right cell, I’ve seen as high as 2600 lumens from a fully modified light with a top cell… that would make the D80 a superior smallish light in my book!

Yeah, that sounds great to me. I completely agree.

I meant Cree>Samsung LH351D. Isn’t the SST-40 a Luminous emitter?
Maybe they are the same company and I am uninformed?

Either way, yeah, I’d love the SST-40.

@ Lexel
It is the same reason why Lumintop is not using the LH351D. They can not source the leds in China.
And ordering parts from the US is more expensive and a bit more complicated than it looks if you are living in China.
If it were so easy and cheap Lumintop would have done it for the FW3A. We do not know the whole situation.
I will ask about the SST-40. But if i remember right, the SST-40 is not available in high CRI. Or have i missed a new high CRI SST-40?

I’d prefer the LH351D 5000k 90CRI.

Would still be very bright, but would have much better tint and color rendition compared to the… unpleasant 6500k of the SST-40.

Fireflies had no problem sourcing parts from Arrow, they just need to pay more than sourcing from China
So if they will they can have the LEDs withing 2 days with Express paying about 14-20% taxes

still cheaper than Cree
