A significant BLF contributor now has a Patreon! Let's show our gratitude!

^^ Just follow link in the OP and then sign up to become a patron and choose an amount you want to donate to support TK. Can be a one time donation and after it is done, you could delete your account or you could decide to donate a little monthly. Whatever motivates you.

i am sure you can add the direct link in the OP and make the title more clear by naming her ;)

btw: if you find a plan to cheap and the other too expensive - just edit the amount you wanna give ;)

In short, BLF member ToyKeeper (TK) is a very active contributor to the community here and does so all out of generosity. She has offered so much to BLF, both in tangible and intangible ways. Whether it’s managing massive group buys or developing amazing UIs or just having an awesome attitude and composure that keeps the forums a much more pleasant place to be, TK does it all.

Patreon is a structured and secure way for private, individual contributors to be funded through donations from anyone who wants to be involved.

As for me, I really don’t have any affiliation other than I’m an appreciative BLFer who recognizes good work and wants to support those behind it.

Cheers!

Oh, um, I should clarify, because it’s honestly a little weird. I picked Patreon because it takes care of most of the safety issues and other headaches involved in accepting money online… But it has the drawback that it only allows subscription-type things. There isn’t a function for one-time transactions.

But it can still be done. For people who want to do a one-time transaction, here’s how:

  • Sign up for a subscription of whatever type you want.
  • Wait until one transaction has completed. This happens on the 1st of each month.
  • Cancel your subscription.

The site does have an option to do a transaction immediately at sign-up, but then it has a different problem — If someone signs up at the end of a month, it’ll charge them at sign-up and then charge them again on the 1st of the next month… which could be the next day. So I didn’t enable that option.

I hope it won’t be a big inconvenience.

Got it.

At first glance, it looked like a joke thread.

A no brainer for me, signed up as a patron.

TK and Tom have pulled us out of the dark ages of L,M,H,Strobe,SOS. Had to join. Instead of doing subscribe and then unsubscribe after one payment, I subscribed for moon mode and then will unsubscribe at some point out in the future. If I forget to unsubscribe for a few months after I meant to, it won't be a big deal because it won't be that much money extra contributed.

@ImA4Wheelr
To be fair and if i’m not wrong, Tido made the first step to move the lines concerning UI with his thread which opened things to further contributions and developments.
Anyway… to all who contributed in his thread and continue to move the lines with their innovations and/or collaborations with manufacturers.

People aren’t donating because of UI development.

TK was sort of forced into managing the FW3A group buy because everyone else disappeared. Folks noticed and wanted to show their appreciation for the time and energy that she put into that thread.

I’m donating because of UI/firmware development. Or at least, mostly for that. She’s put TONS of time and effort into improving this hobby that we all enjoy, going back years well before the FW3A issues, and I’m grateful for that. I mean, I’m also glad she salvaged the FW3A when the others disappeared, so I guess its a package deal, but that’s not the only reason she deserves our support.

I think the point I’m trying to make is that sending a one-time “tip” for helping make the FW3A happen is fine and good and will be appreciated by her, I’m sure. So I hope everyone who appreciates her help keeping that project alive and are in a position to donate, do so. But I, for one, like the Patreon model because I know she’s going to continue doing great things here well beyond the FW3A and this allows those of us who want to, to continue supporting her work going forward, unrelated to the FW3A.

Yeah, we agree on that. She probably should have set up a Patreon a long time ago.

Pffft.

You’re a joke thread.

But seriously, thanks to everyone who signed up. It really means a lot. I just don’t know how to graciously accept things like this, so it’s easier to make bad jokes.

Thanks for letting us say thank you.

You're right. It's so easy to not remember the early ones that began plowing a new path. There are probably others I should have mentioned too. STAR by JonnyC, etc. I remember learning how to flash because of the FW that Tido put out there for all to use and build on. I wasn't around the whole time that Tido was contributing to the hobby. So I don't have a good sense of how much time and effort he exerted. TK on the other hand has been contributing in big ways most of the time I have been here. I especially recall her (and another whose name escapes me at the moment) spending lots of time packing tons of code into tiny13a. Then, all the time and effort she has contributed into FW so many of us enjoy now.

Oh great, thanks for that earworm.

You know it’s a bad R.E.M. song if you can understand the words.

My wife is in England with my youngest 2 kids, so I can’t affort to be a patron right now. But I plan to.

Thanks for everything that you contribute to the community ToyKeeper. As a part of my commitment to this community, I will fund ToyKeeper for 1 year at $250 a month. I have also made small contributions to various forum contributors. Thanks everyone.

Wow Mark M.

It’s been months since I’ve seen you, and you come back with a bang!

wow! @Mark M

Yes, I was attending college. It left little time for flashlights.

Wow!

If there’s someone who deserves that in this forum it’s definitely TK. Her work will be on thousands of flashlights all around the world.
