This is a rather unknown battery size for many people. It is used for a lot of stuff, mostly battery packs, but may also be used inside regular C or D cell of the low capacity types. These cells are delivered with tabs, making it easier to use the for packs without a battery welder.











The cells do not match completely, this is not a serious problem with NiMH, the capacity specifications may also be a bit on the high side.















Conclusion

The cells are rated for high capacity and current, these ratings may be a bit optimistic, but they have fairly high capacity and can deliver a lot of current.

This took me by surprise. More than a year ago I fully overhauled a Ni-MH DeWalt battery pack with Turnigy sub-C 4200mAh cells, by the time I asked HobbyKing's customer service about the consistency of the 5Ah sub-C cells versus the 4.2Ah ones. Their representative told me something in the likes of “the 4.2V cells are probably better suited for the drill than the 5V ones due to the voltage”, and of :facepalm: course I did not bothered in continuing the conversation any further LoL.

My colleague is going to need another battery serviced, and I still wonder if the 4.2Ah cells actually are more consistent or not.

I have some Tenergy Propel 3000mah sub-c and they’re great. I tested them for capacity and at 500mah it was over 3000mah consistently. I used them to replace a nicad pack in a old air inflator which draws almost 10A. So far no issues. Charge fine, good capacity. They drain pretty slow too. I can ruin the pump for 10 min and still have good power and temps.
