Some flashlights who shall remain nameless have battery compartments too small for rechargeable batteries which are around 1mm larger than primary batteries except Vivitar rechargeable batteries which are the same size. The rubber button on my old light failed making it no longer waterproof. So I ended up with 6 matched Vivitar batteries and went in search of a flashlight that took 6 AA batteries. There were many choices but the web sites failed to give enough information on their lights and no one reviewed these lights. So I picked up an iProtec at Academy Sports for $24.99. There are no photos since there is no point. The light uses a plastic carrier which has the same quality as found on $1 lights sold everywhere. It will run on 3 batteries which you can put in either side of the carrier. It turns out this light does have enough room for with rechargeable batteries I tested the Rayovac recharge and recharge plus batteries. The beam is a rounded square with yellow fringing. I has a rotating slide focus. Slide focus flashlights are impossible to make waterproof. Every time you focus out it sucks in air. I plan on wrapping the light with electrical tape keeping it in the zoom position. It will then be mounted with conduit clamps on my bicycle. It does do a good job of keeping the light on the road instead of in the eyes of motorists which pisses them off. My conclusion is the light is worth $24.99 but I would stay away from their more powerful models.

I liked the iprotec 1400 enough to waste $40 on one (at Academy) and then bought 2* 26500s to power it. The xhp 50 was ok up to ~ 7.9A. The LED eventually became desoldered from the mcpcb. Now, I'm going to put an xpl hi and fet+7135 from MtnElec and run it with a 21700 or 26650. I'll tap some screws through the pill to hold the mcpcb and deal with the heat.

For some reason, the original LED made contact with lens and burned a little hole but it doesn't have an effect on the beam. That's also why I'm going with a domeless LED.

Wellp, LuxPro makes a 2×D light which is pretty decent, and I’m using a pair of 3×AA (parallel) holders to burn down half-dead alkaleaks.

Plastic front “glass”, but a real glass from a C8 drops right in. Other’n that, it’s pretty decent. XP-G3 in a reflector, so throws a pretty tight beam. I used diffusion film on it because I want just the opposite, something floodier.
