This is not a thrower anyway, so why bother with XP-L HI or other small die LED ?
Go fat or go home !
(an XHP50.2 3V would get a 3000+ lumens but then it will be a true hotrod, not really reliable IMO)

It may not be a “thrower” but it is definitely more of a throwy edc than a floody edc, which is a very nice option in a world of triples and quads. I think the SST-40 setup sounds great, since the xhp is too hot.

The SST-40 can get plenty hot as well.

almost 10000 stock

above 250 pieces like 1.28$ per LED not good enough? way cheaper than XPL HI

Woudn’t the more throwy Cree be better than the Samsung in this light?

The reflector works beautifully with the large XM-L2 emitter, since the Samsung SST-40 is the same size as the XM-L2 the reflector should have very much the same profile but the 40 can handle a lot more power and produce well over 2000 lumens on the right cell, I’ve seen as high as 2600 lumens from a fully modified light with a top cell… that would make the D80 a superior smallish light in my book!

Yeah, that sounds great to me. I completely agree.

I meant Cree>Samsung LH351D. Isn’t the SST-40 a Luminous emitter?
Maybe they are the same company and I am uninformed?

Either way, yeah, I’d love the SST-40.

@ Lexel
It is the same reason why Lumintop is not using the LH351D. They can not source the leds in China.
And ordering parts from the US is more expensive and a bit more complicated than it looks if you are living in China.
If it were so easy and cheap Lumintop would have done it for the FW3A. We do not know the whole situation.
I will ask about the SST-40. But if i remember right, the SST-40 is not available in high CRI. Or have i missed a new high CRI SST-40?

I’d prefer the LH351D 5000k 90CRI.

Would still be very bright, but would have much better tint and color rendition compared to the… unpleasant 6500k of the SST-40.

Fireflies had no problem sourcing parts from Arrow, they just need to pay more than sourcing from China
So if they will they can have the LEDs withing 2 days with Express paying about 14-20% taxes

still cheaper than Cree

Well DUH! Of course the SST-40 is Luminus, geesh, musta had Samsung on the brain after slicing 18 of em….

One question about the SST-40.
In the Datasheet i can find CCTs down to 4500K. But i can not find a shop with something warmer than 6500K.

The lower CCT’s of the SST40 are only just on the market and are not to be found yet. I expect KD to come up with some these days

And only to confirm it. The SST-40 can be driven save with a fet driver? They bought a 7000K SST-40 to test it.

7000K :person_facepalming:

Yeah. That’s not too good.

If they don’t even want to import an LH351D, just let them use XP-L HIs.

They want to test with the led. For production they try to get a 6500K SST-40. The warmer ones are not available now.

I got a nice message. LuckySun is able to get 5700K SST-40 for the D80. They also will sell a XP-L-HI version.
And for modders they will put a centering gasket for the SST-40 and one for XP size leds in the package (because the SST-40 is bigger they have to adjust the reflector led hole).
The plan was to go with 7mm (the original had a not so common 9,5mm hole). Now they will go with the more common size 9mm.

Very nice. Of those two, will the SST-40 be much brighter?
