Actually that’s true. I needed to cut my spending in the fall and haven’t bought a light since then. Honestly….it was really hard initially. Still quite hard for like half year. Now….it’s OK. I learned not to desire mediocre lights. Or even OK lights. And ones that may be excelent but don’t match my needs well.
Actually since fall there was not a single must-have light release for me. F.e. I haven’t bought FW3A and I don’t miss it. I believe it’s great but for every of my uses I have a better light already.
This one….is not a must-have either. But I rarely use my Haikelite MT07S because it weighs too much. This should be able to produce a reasonably close beam with much smaller weight and still good enough thermals. And my financial constraints are going to get looser soon.
Still - feasibility depends on UI, unless it’s good I won’t buy.
And on performace - it surely will underdrive the LED somewhat but how much? If too much I won’t buy.
Fried egg beam somewhat worries me as well though. If it delivers both of above point I’ll still need to think whether this light is great enough.
Ugh - you're right, not sure then. A MtnE style boost is probably wayyy too much $$$, and yes, limited amps. Hhmm. Ok, I get it now - the 3V XHP50.2 might be a better option, but in theory, you should get more efficiency of lumens/amp out of the 70 with a decent boost driver. I really dunno why our boost driver prices are sooo much higher than what they do in China, but then again, lot of the China boost (or buck) drivers we've used turned out to be unreliable in the long run, probably over amped them or the quality of the parts, etc.
