What do you feed your pets?

Wellness-brand dry dog food, and have for years. It strikes a nice balance of being an above-average quality product without being too expensive, especially bought in bulk. Specifically we buy the purple bag, chicken and oat, variety because our dog seems to like it best.

There are some really good resources out there on this topic, if you want to dive deep. I really like the detail that www.dogfoodadvisor.com goes into.

I give CAPO the best food. There are several brands that qualify. PURINA is NOT one of them!

Merrick Beef/Buffalo and Sweet potato GRAIN FREE.

That food and ALL his treats are natural. No dyes/NO preservatives/No junk. :sunglasses:

His food has NEVER been recalled. :+1:

Cat gets fed better than me…

When your cat gets that old. HE eats what HE likes.
regardless of the label on the front hey.
Fit as Mallee Bull. chases drop Kicks (Miniature things they call dogs), out the front yard.
and beats me up the stairs.
Purina ain’t too bad. He likes it. (At the moment)

My dog eats everything.

He especially likes rats and local cats.

But we also feed him Lukullus

Fromm dog food… grain free…I had a cat that was allergic to the food we were feeding him, not a pretty sight…he eventually developed acute pancreatitis, vet said in all likelihood it was a food allergy, switched to Fromm and he was much much better… so I don’t skimp on my buddies food….lesson learned.

I cook the food for my dog every two weeks. I know exactly what is going in her mouth via the food bowl. What she eats away from that is on her.

Started with mice.

Graduated to rats after a few years.

With a special treat now & then…. ‘wabbit’.

.
Yep…. pet is a snake.

Wow—Not coming visit you—-

 … I would not let it get you. . No worse than your pet gator at your Bayou camp.

I am about to soon sell or donate it to a zoo or reptile farm. It’s to big to be fun any more… it’s just work dealing with it. :frowning: . :weary:

I feed my Spaniel raw meat and bone, to which I add some pureed vegetables. He thrives on it.

When I first got him as a pup I started feeding him kibble with some cooked meat until I read a bit about raw feeding. Now I’d never go back.

Apparently a dog’s digestive system isn’t designed to be able to cope with starch, so any starch basically comes out the back end.

Considering how much food goes in my dog, there’s surprisingly little waste that comes out of him, and what does is fairly inoffensive.

Teacher.

You like snakes. We have a nice little 8ft Carpet Snake (Python) in back yard by pool,
Gentle as.
I’ve picked it up a coupla times when it’s been curled up.
Just lifts it’s head. Looks at me. then buries head back down in coils again, just like a baby.
Bloody drop kick came in back garden a month or two ago for a crap when I left gate open.
Hmm. Went behind Cane Palms along behind the pool and disappeared. Nice.

whatever you feed them the products name or company does not matter
most companies sell cheap crap and maybe also premium food that is made from meat

whta matters is the composition of it is made
cats are carnivores and still companies feeds them as it if were a pig or rat,
the majority of the food is not meat or animal products like oils

also dry food is not good for cat as its an animal that takes the majority of daily water by food

any serious cats foos should be containing at lest 80% meat or animal products, no grain at all

a good composition also gives you percentage of any ingredient
like theis:
Fresh chicken meat (18), fresh turkey meat (7), fresh whole eggs (5), fresh chicken liver (5), fresh whole flounder (4), fresh whole herring (4), fresh turkey liver (4), fresh chicken heart (4), fresh turkey heart (4), fresh chicken necks (4), chicken (dehydrated, 4), turkey (dehydrated, 4), whole mackerel (dehydrated, 4), whole sardine (dehydrated, 4), whole herring (dehydrated, 4), chicken fat (3), whole red lentils, whole green peas, whole green lentils, whole chickpeas, whole yellow peas, lentil fiber, whole pinto beans, whole navy beans, chicken cartilage (dehydrated, 1), herring oil (1), chicken liver (freeze-dried), turkey liver (freeze-dried), fresh whole pumpkin, fresh whole butternut squash, fresh whole zucchini, fresh whole parsnips, fresh carrots, fresh whole red delicious apples, fresh whole bartlett pears, fresh kale, fresh spinach, fresh beet greens, fresh turnip greens, brown kelp, whole cranberries, whole blueberries, whole saskatoon berries, chicory root, turmeric root, milk thistle, burdock root, lavender, marshmallow root, rosehips, enterococcus faecium.

ADDITIVES (per kg): Nutritional additives: Zinc chelate: 100 mg; Copper chelate: 11 mg; Choline chloride: 1200 mg.

^

I disagree. The NAME matters because good pet food companies do not have crap for ingredients.

The FIRST 4 ingredients in CAPOS food are MEAT,NOT grains/vegetables or filler foods. :+1:

One of the main things with an animals diet — Are they Healthy and maintaining a healthy weight—- If an animal maintains his weight —has a good coat — has normal poop—they’re eating properly — both of my cats are extremely healthy —- The Old Girl 16 yrs old has maintained her same weight for the past 12 yrs —- Lots of people say man those cats are small etc—- I say no they are not overweight —- even the Vet can’t believe these cats stay the same weight —- 2 yrs ago this lady vet came to work for the vet I go to —- she said oh your cat is the same weight as last year exactly—I said she looks good for 98 huh — she was puzzled at first looked at the chart and said wow she is 14 — I thought she was around 6 yrs old

Your post made me laugh.

Apparently you aren’t aware that Purina OWNS Merrick.

So far, not many that have posted in this thread feed their pets budget food.

That's surprising to me.

As far as my dog goes, he likes the food, the food is dirt cheap, and he's very healthy.

Seems like a good combo, but I do like hearing what everyone else feeds their pets.

I’d estimate that the ground up meat and bone that I feed my spaniel costs about $1.50 per day. I’d call that fairly budget.

Even then very expensive grain free foods contain ingredients that aren’t best suited to a dogs digestive system - sweet potatoe, potatoes etc are still starchy fillers that are there to replace meat and to help the food be formed into pellets/kibble.

I get many different pets and they get very different food.
Some are happy with laptop pulls, others need at least 30Q. When I have a good day I feed them VTC5A. Others are actually happier with LM34C.
I have many pets with apetites that are smaller or larger than that as well.

My Cat also eats our food off the plates.
Chicken, Roo Meat, Loves my raw Rump.(AND Carrots…)
Cheese. Loooves my Dark chocolate.and even my tinned dark plums??. You tell me.

If it on my plate. he’ll have a serve.
5.2 to 5.4 kg ALL his adult life, except last yr when he was crook for a while. Dropped 1\2 a kilo.
15 of our yrs in April this yr. He’s a registered breed
and cost a bloody fortune for a cat.
Prev couple of this breed only lasted 10 and a bit yrs.
one to Heartworm.
One to a car. which I beat the shit out of the driver for.
He blasted up my back drive without permission and not looking for a cat sleeping on a private. gated drive nobody uses all his life.
Car was trespassing on private property. He won’t again.
Lucky I didn’t slice his throat for him. Almost…
Missus stopped me.
Syd was my mate went through my Cancer with me.
I told him. I ever see him on the street.
I WILL drive over him.
people tell me he moved the following week.
