[4K Review] Sofirn SP36 BLF Anduril - 5650 Lumens - USB Type C

Any creative ideas for adding a lanyard? I might go with a Haikelite style braid.

I’d feel very self-conscious using a lanyard on a flashlight.

Nice video!

Nice video comparisons! Thank you!

I wonder how it compares to a BLF Q8.

My Q8 was 1000 lumens brighter but the tint and beam profile wasn’t as nice.

Lol, you’d lose that feeling after dropping one from a moving vehicle.

Really? I much prefer the BLF Q8’s CT/tint (warmer) and profile (floodier) vs the Sofirn Q8 and Airpro DC7.

I’ve been slinging the DC7 because of the built-in charger, ’though I’m not too much of a fan of the CW/throwierness of the beam, though.

I was holding back about getting the SP36, because how many big donks do I “need”, but…

Unno, if it used ~4000K instead of bluer, it’d be a done-deal.

Thanks for the review, that looks good.
Nice to add the tiny 3rd 26650 to the comparison because that one pre-dated the other sub-popcan size lights by 2 years and still is really compact and a great performer.

Okay I have an embarrassingly stoopid question. What is the quickest method of charging supported by this flashlight — is it compatible with either QC 3.0 or USB PD chargers? TIA

Well it doesn’t support charging using a USB C to C cable so no PD. You are stuck using a USB A to C cable. I don’t think it support QuickCharge either.

With the deal Sofirn just posted, this light is a deal! The light with batteries for $50 shipped!

Is there a factory reset with this version?

Got my pair today!

Nice review as always. Love the tint comparison with the ROT66.

I also took some measurements at 2 seconds. I ordered my SP36 during November 2019 and I'm surprised the LH351D 5000K in this batch does not have green tint like the other LH351D I've seen. On turbo, the DUV is pretty much 0 so spot on the BBL. It's interesting because the LH351D used in the Sofirn LT1 is tested to be above the BBL by Maukka. Must be two different batches.

Modded one SP36 with two layers of d-c-fix and an external reflector shield. Smoothed out the cloverleaf pattern/donut hole. Comparison to/combination with factory set up here:

Don’t use one then.

Don’t use one then.

The Sofirn SP36 series (or other Sofirn flashlights with USB-C charging port) don’t support USB-C PD charging (I wonder if there are any USB-C port flashlights that really support PD charging, at this time).

With regards to QuickCharge, I’ve checked that the SP36 (XP-L2) and the SP36 BLF Anduril (LH351D) can only charge at 5v.
But the other SP36S model (LH351D) does support QuickCharge 2.0 9v and 12v. I haven’t done complete charging time tests so I’m not sure if charging at QC2.0-9v/12v will result in significantly faster charging time or not.

(Looks like only the SP36S has this QC2.0 charging capability, Sofirn didn’t appear retroactively fit their SP36/SP36-BLF Anduril with the QC2.0-compatible charging circuitry used on their SP36S model).

SP36S uses the same LH351D LEDs as the SP36 BLF Anduril, but has their own proprietary Sofirn firmware (somewhat similar but not exactly the same as the “groups+ramping” mode UI as used in the SP32Av2.0/C8F-21700/C8G/SP70/SP33v3)

Which cells were used in this?

EDIT: your image is way too wide and didn't see the cells used on the end

I have one of these, love it!! The only thing I couldn’t sort out yet is, my flashlight is not memorizing the last power level used, it always starts in the minimum level. Everything else is working exactly as in the documentation. The tint in this flashlight is great as well!!
